I did not stuff myself at the Thanksgiving dinner yesterday but I did have my share of turkey. I got up from the table and I felt comfortable but in no time at all I began to feel sleepy and it continued today. I am wondering if something is added to the turkeys, during the holiday season, to make people sleepy. Now mind you, this is not a bad feeling but, it got me to wondering. Hmmmm

There is an amino acid called trytophan in the turkey that makes you sleepy..it is a known fact

Absolutely - we all were trytophaned at about 4:PM. Took some coffee and home baked pie to revive my crown..

I think the post-dinner slump people get also has a lot to do with the heaviness and starchiness of the meal. I have been on a more-or-less low-carb diet for the past few weeks and even though I didn't stuff myself at Thanksgiving dinner, it was certainly a bigger dinner than I usually eat, with lots of starchy stuff that I usually avoid, like potatoes and bread. It all hit me like a ton of bricks and I could hardly keep my eyes open by 8 PM!
