Admittedly, we all like to eat our hearty or elegant Polish food. However, I like to think that we Polish are less obsessed with food than with its significance...and I offer a poem from one of my favorite cookbooks, Treasured Polish Recipes for Americans.Gosc W Dom, Bóg W DomA guest in my home is God in my home. This is our time honored greeting, Our heritage from days of old When brotherhood was more than gold; The host shared bread and salt with all: The peasant, knight, the great and small. And friends were made while eating. -Victoria Janda Happy and Mindful eating to all GM

An old Polish proverb:
Kto je i pije, ten dobrze zyje. There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink.

Jim,
I am cheating, I copied that proverb froma book that gave me the translation. SO, for your contribution, I think it says " XXXX, who neither drinks nor eats."
I tried to look up "wlasnie" but could not find it. However, I found this phrase:
"wlali w niego pol litra wodki: they poured half a litre of vodka down his throat" That sounds neither happy nor mindful.

Wlasnie exactly. It says he who does not drink is not living.
