51 years ago October a Marine Artillery 105 mm Howitzer Battery, Bravo, 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment in support of 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines Infantry was airlifted by jet to Guantanamo Bay Naval Air Station for the brink of WW III, "The Cuban Missile Crises". A few days later October 26th, 1962 the day before the United States was scheduled to attack Cuba on October 27, 1962 the Russians moved (2) FKR Cruise Missile within 15 miles of Guantanamo (Filipinas, Cuba). Each cruise missile had a 300 kt nuclear warhead, and the Russian Commanders had authorization to use them if he felt threatened by the Americans. If attacked the Russians planned on detonating 6 FKR Cruise Missiles 200 feet above our heads in Guantanamo killing 9,500 Marines, and Sailors. Each warhead would extinguish all life in 40-65 square mile area, Guantanamo Naval Base is 45 square miles. The American attack on the 27th of October was cancelled one-half hour before H-Hour or nobody would be here telling you what almost happened.
