Hello all,
I was almost ready to post the first of Doylestown article's on the internet but then I realized that I do not know what is the origin of the Madonna's icon.
The brochure from John Chmielewski tells that the Madonn copy "before being enshrined there in Doylestown travelled to US Polish parishes for 4 years". Did any of you participated in the Black Madonna copy visitation? It reminded me the millenial action when the copy of Black Madonna picture travelled all through Poland 1966-1972 and was imprisoned for some time also.
Who did this copy?
I am sorry, I just could not find a right information about it on the internet.

Jaga, I would think the Shrine in Doylestown would have that information. You can try to write them or check their website to see if it is posted.
I think the article should also have a link to the shrine website as there is tons of great information and other links there. Thats how I found that great Polish radio station.

Chris,
I was planning of course to link it to the shrine website. I will add the link of course. I think, I will eventually modify the article and leave just the pictures of madonnas (I will add some) and the rest of the pictures keep for more detailed description of the shrine.
John send me some info, it is almost too much so it takes me a while to go through all of it.

I checked the Internet for painter also but came up with ZERO. Sometimes there are painters that paint for the church so maybe they aren't signed or advertised.

The history of the Painting of Black Madonna of Czêstochowa should be found on msn, under the search-word "swiatynia doylestown" and then click "Our Lady of Czestochowa - Sanctuarium." Unfortunately, I have not been able to find an English translation. Basically, the article says that the Painting, which is said "to possess some mysterious power, something that fixates itself deep in the memory, penetrates the heart, and reaches the soul's very depths," was painted by a renowned Czêstochowa artist, Prof. Boles³aw Rutkowski. There were some difficulties to bring the Painting to the U.S., but finally the Communists let it go after seven months of squabbling, and the Painting, commissioned right after the land in Doylestown was acquired on 1954, arrived and stayed a short time in Trenton, NJ, at the Church of St. Jadwiga, and then was driven to Doylestown on June 26, 1955. Each time I visited Doylestown (probably the only American to do so, I did several pilgrimages on foot from downtown Doylestown), I was impressed by the beauty of this particular rendition of the Black Madonna.

Thanks Nathanael. I'm good at finding stuff but this eluded me as I did a bit of searching myself. Maybe cause key words were in Polish. It is not in wikipedia either. Maybe you can add this to it. I followed your link but this just brought me to the Shrine in Doylestown. Your article in Polish and the article that should be identical in the English verion is not the same word for word. Whoever wrote this did not do readers justice. I checked your Polsih article and it is very easy to miss by me maybe not so much by someone who reads Polish (even that was not so evident about the artist or so I thought) www.czestochowa.us/shrine_pl.php

Mine is also in Polish, but is on www.msn.com. I do not know how to add it. It's strange that my link leads me to a different article (perhaps because the word is "sanktuarium, not "sanctuarium" as I have previously wtitten. BJS www.czestochowa.us/shrine_pl.php

If English is set as the viewing language, it probably sends to a different article! BJS www.czestochowa.us/shrine_pl.php

Nath....I originally went to MSN and entered what you said you did which brought me to th elink I posted in my post. I also did a Google with your swiatynia doylestown and it brought me to "Our Lady of Czestochowa - Sanctuarium." but I did not see it in English only slight mention in Polish. Can you copy and paste in forum the actual link you found your information. It appears we are not recieving the same search responses. Thanks
