Jaga, The roads in Poland are hopeless and will be for years and years. Our recent trip to Suwalszczysna was entirely two lane roads (except for perhaps 1% of the journey) with I would say a good 50% of the traffic being large trucks. You spend the whole journey overtaking trucks, which is dangerous, especially on rutted and pot-holed roads. The journey took 6 hours, in any other country it would take about half that. In the UK, Germany, France, anywhere else, you would have motorways (Autostrada) with at least three lanes of which one would be full of trucks and the other two for easy car driving. The only problem in other countries though is that you have far more traffic so often even though you have nice roads with many lanes you're not going anywhere! The Polish road system really is one of the biggest jokes in Europe.

I remember my trip to Poland when we drove with my cousin sightseeing. Many times I could not believe the chances it seemed he took to pass a car. Many times my heart would wind up in my mouth and my brain was screaming "He is trying to kill us all". I thought he was just a bad driver now I see it was just normal "Poland" driving. I probably was too busy enjoying the beautiful country to pay much attention to the roads and their poor conditons. Now if it were me driving, Pawian's trip would probably be 16 hrs instead of 8 or 10. I do not like passing trucks on a one lane highway.

And this is where I was today and usually everyday ;D This is where I want to be tomorrow. I am going to camp at the seaside with 2 sons, again adventure holidays for boys only. w.droge.pl/drogi_wynik.php?m1=218251984696&m2=229423977324&wariant=2I want to get there in one day, to avoid jams we must leave very early in the morning. The first part of the route will be on a highway, the other, unforturtunately, on ordinary narrow roads with a lot of construction on the way. Sounds as of a good plan! Good travell, good adventure and best, a sharing experience with the boys! Charles

Charles, I was not born IN the Peak District but very close to it, about 20 minutes drive, max, so I know the area well. Here is a map of all of Britain's best known natural beauty areas, you can see the Peak District in the middle: Thank you Ian for the very informative map. I reseached it on the {Peak Disrict visiter Guide/Peak District and National Parks}. Very outstanding! There also were an excellent write up on the {Amber Valley}{The heart of Derbyshire}. Your growing up near this area would be a very wonderful childhood experience.... Charles

For at peak hours, the traffic is simply ugly rotten!! The other is this: Autobahn in high traffic areas. Contains a very visible installation of {Automated Radar Unit} This buggers are inter-linked with speed cameras. The exceeding of the speed limit, will trigger the interlinked camera, and photographs the individual vehicle. A ticket is then in the post to the owners address. Formally, the ticket was accompanied with a copy of the photograph, but this was stopped. It seems on occasion, the lady in the photograph, was not the wife of the operator. And as such, there were too many of instances of divorce action initiated by the photographic evidence. In most cases though, the automated radar sites are very visible illuminated in very large numbers, the required speed limit. Just slow to the indicated speed limit and motor through. Charles

Come off it Ian Most of the Peak District National whatever is simply moorland, a large proportion of it burnt-out in recent years. Not a patch on the wonders of the Lake District!!! Ok, there are some beautiful parts - the Dales area - and some interesting parts - the potholes, but mostly it is just low, rolling wasteland!!!! As one real Northerner to a southern Northerner!!! Pawian, I am probably too late but if you try the route here - www.uk.map24.com/ - it goes into Germany and back out again. They suggest 8hrs 40 minutes which is, I think, faster than your route will end up being, more like 10 hours! Best of luck whichever way you go and drive carefully! I already checked this site and at first I thought it was a mistake or a joke. hahahaha But I am not going through Germany. I have enough on my head now, I am not going to heap up more by travelling abroad, even if it is still the EU. I am going to cover the whole distance of 700 kilometers in about 9-10 hours. E.g. the motorway from Kraków to Wrocław should be empty when I am going to drive on it at 4 am. This is a distance of about 300 km, covered at high speed will take about 2.5 hours. I am not sure about the construction works on those roads and motorway. I am an optimist about the journey to the seaside. A good strong car (174 horse power) is a key to the success. I am also an optimist about the weather - they forecast a scorcher for the next days. I am a pessimist about finding some isolated place - unfortunately, the seaside will be crowded what I hate. But I will make for it later in the mountains in August.

Beutiful photos. ?And you say that you are not working for or contributing to National Geographic?; tsk, tsk, their loss. I think you have some of the artist in you Jaga. I really liked the Photos. Bob, thanks so much! Some pictures were done by John (my hubby), not by me I had my own low resolution camera but I did so many pictures that all memory was filled up completely. The photos with his camera are better

Beautiful pictures, Jaga, with that breathtaking, wide-open Western scenery and rich colors. The rock formations are especially amazing - think of the awesome geological forces that must have created them!

Jaga, you have a talent for landscape photography. I enjoyed the pictures of the mountains, the compositions, the perspective, the environments!
