Taken at sunset from the summit of Mount Washington looking towards Lakes of the Clouds Appalachian Mountain Club Hut and Mount Monroe.
Friday night, New Hampshire was treated to a spectacular sunset. I was fortunate to be on Mount Chocorua, scouting out locations for sunrise, when the sun caught the gap between the clouds and the horizon.
I woke up to the sounds of white-throated sparrows and a veery before 4AM on the slopes of Mount Chocorua. There are few better alarm clocks in the world.
the shores of Russel Pond, where I camped, mottled in green and white with shadbush blossoms.
Nearly an hour after yesterday's post at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods...an hour spent watching the clouds and the light, and listening to the birds and the frogs...blue hour settled over the northern peaks.
