Dear Lilly,
Welcome on board, I come from the same North-West corner of Europe as Karl, and I am of Dutch/Polish fabric. I have Polish and Polish-American family. This Forum mainly has Polish-American and some European (Karl and me) visitors. Some have closer ties to Poland and the Polish Diaspora than others. But we all have a fondness and love for Poland, Polish history, present day Poland, Polonia, Polish culture, Polish music, Polish cuisine, interesting Polish persona and our Polish heritage. Each of us has her or his unique Polishness, or (like in the case of Karl) a special connection with the European continent, life experience in various countries on various continents and a connection with people with Polish roots via this Forum. Each of us has his or her unique contribution to this Forum.

Hi Lily, and Welcome!
I am the token Slovak-American on this forum, here to keep all of the Poles honest and try to bring them back into speaking and spelling like the Slovaks do. I have been exploring Slovakia for quite a long time and in recent years started my sojourns in Poland, and have found it a warm and welcoming land. We share quite a bit of history along your South East border in the Carpathians.
You don't have to hurry, but do jump in and participate.. Kai (Kaima)

Hi Jaga Thank you for a lovely welcome I live in England was born in Scotland, and my fathers family names are (my grandparents) Pawel Dola and Franciszka Westfal/Westphal my father was born in Bialosliwie in 1924 Lilly Dear Lilly, Your fathers name sounds real Polish and your mothers name sounds more German to, me because the name sounds like Westphalia or Westfalia. Westphalia or Westfalia (German: Westfalen pronounced [vɛstˈfaːlən], Westphalian: Wäästfaln) is a region in Germany, centred on the cities of Arnsberg, Bielefeld, Osnabrück, Dortmund, Minden, and Münster. The most populous state of Germany, as well as the fourth largest by area; North Rhine-Westphalia encompasses the plains of the Lower Rhine region and parts of the Central Uplands (die Mittelgebirge) up to the gorge of Porta Westfalica. The state covers an area of 34,083 km2 (13,160 sq mi) and shares borders with Belgium in the southwest and the Netherlands in the west and northwest. When I go to Germany in the East of Arnhem I enter North Rhine-Westphalia. Münster, Bielefeld, Oberhaussen, Essen, Duisburg, Düsseldorf and Wuppertal are the closest towns and cities nearby. They are all in North Rhine-Westphalia, in the West of Germany. Your mothers family name must come from Germans who have roots in that area somehow? (That sometimes goes centuries back, when many people named their surname after the village, town, city or region they lived. Berlin, Paris, and in Dutch people have names like Van Dantzig (From Gdańsk) and Van Praag (from Prague), van Zeist ( the name of a Dutch town) and etc. Cheers, Pieter

Lilly
Being you were born in Scotland with present residence in England. What are your thoughts of the recent wishes to give statehood to Scotland?
Some years past, the providence of Quebec faced this similar issue in Canada. One of many sticky points was the reality in the light of a breakaway was the loss of the provisions of social programmes formally provided by The Canadian Government.
Would this have fallen into the reality of independence if granted by the Crown?
