Jeanne, I forgot to add celery root. It is also a part of Polish salad. Here is how Polish "salatka jarzynowa" looks like: Jeanne, Sounds good...maybe I'll trying making my potato salad more interesting by adding some carrots and peas to it! You're right about the parsnip...I don't think I've ever had it! I usually only put potatoes, chopped celery, grated onion, and mayonaise in mine, but I do top it with sliced hard-boiled eggs! Jeanne

Is "celery root" the same thing as what we call "celery" in the U.S.? What we use isn't the root part of the plant, but the stalks and leaves. I even use celery seed as a spice/flavoring, but I've never heard of celery root...

Jeanne, you can buy celery root in many grocery stores separately, but I guess, it is hard to connect the green leafy and stem part with its root. The next time ask at the store. Jeanne, Jeanne, Celeriac Celeriac, also called turnip-rooted celery or knob celery, is a variety of celery cultivated for its edible roots, hypocotyl, and shoots. It is sometimes called celery root. It was mentioned in Homer's Odyssey as selinon. Very good cooked and mashed like potatoes also.

Now this gives me a better idea! Kai Ron, I have found celeriac in most grocery stores. It generally won't have the stalk. Great for cooking and salads.

I can see the celery stalks that I am familiar with, so I know it's the same plant, but I have never come across celery root at the supermarket. I'll have to look for it more carefully in the future. I'm glad you commented. I was thinking celery root was perhaps only sold regionally in the U.S. and not in New England, but I know you live near me, so if you can find it, I can!
