Are you directly affected by any of the current flooding, Leslie? I certainly hope not. I heard about it on the news a couple of days ago and it looks very severe in places.

Hi Suzanne The flooding in various parts of the UK has been the worst for 140 years. It started with torrential rain one night 4 weeks ago and there has been one day without some sort of rain since then - the fields are soaked, the rivers are swollen and in two places that were flooded 4 weeks ago there are still areas of floods. Four weeks ago, Yorkshire had the worst and large places like Sheffield, Leeds and Doncaster had massive floods, and even small towns did not escape - swollen rivers that broke their banks and the drain system that was inadequate to take the water away. Last weekend the torrents recurred and the earlier places were reflooded and new ones afflicted. This time the flooding was more widespread over the country as everywhere was 100% soaked. Fortunately the small town in which I live, Killamarsh - 10 miles south of Sheffield - is mainly quote highly placed (although there was only one exit free on the Monday morning out of 5 exits due to localised floods). In Killamarsh I live in a housing area that is higher than the remainder of the town and my house is on a steep slope down, just below the highest part. So my event was standing at the bedroom window watching the overflowing drain water rushing past the house downhill somewhere, just ignoring my house! Thank goodness as I did not want to join the several thousand made homeless in the places I mentioned earlier. Everybody round about is depressed and their (and mine) depression is made worse when you wake up and it is raining every morning and you know it is going to continue for most of the day. Last Thursday was a red-letter day - it didn't rain, and you should have seen the smiles returning to the faces of everybody. Friday - back to rain, although it seems that even if we are still going to get a lot of rain, the intensity is decreasing. What a 'summer!!!!!'. So now Yorkshire and some other places are going to refer to July 2007 as the time of the Great Yorkshire Flood! Thank you for your concern Suzanne Leslie

Leslie,
Glad to hear you are high and dry and I hope it stays that way! My house is on a hill, too, and it's been nice not having to worry about getting flooded out during periods of torrential rain.
My husband is being sent on a business trip to the UK next week, flying into Birmingham and somehow making his way to his company's branch office in Melbourne - so far, the trip is still on, but who knows what will happen in a week.
What an unbelievable situation, both in terms of how bad it is and how widespread it is. I'll pray for a quick end to all this incessant soaking!!

Problem is, Robert, I have two left hands/arms and two left feet, also I can't manage to get them both going in company, I can't tell my left from my right anyway, and to cap it all, I get seasick when I get into the bath and even worse in a swimming pool. So you see, I have problems. To cap all this boat business, I haven't got a boat. Pathetic, isn't it!!!! ;D Sir Leslie

Sir Leslie, I am glad to see that you are high and dry with no effects of the flooding (not kidding). (kidding) However, maybe you can get hold of Noah's plans and construct a boat. Remember, everyone laughed at Noah when he built his Ark and, there wasen't even a raincloud nearby. ;D

Leslie
Also am I happy for you having come through this unscathed and in one piece. Some times as of now, providence provides in its strange manner that is un-be-known to us untill the time arrives, and it did rain....

Leslie,
I am glad that everything is OK. I am moving the discussion to the accessible forum since I think that more people can be interested in Leslie's and Britain's situation.
