This show was crazy, absurd, clumsey, weird and fantastic, because it was chaotic and different.
Van Oekel's Discohoek was a Dutch television show, aired on VPRO in 1974-1975. The show, written by Wim T. Schippers and produced by Ellen Jens, starred Dolf Brouwers as the comedic character Sjef van Oekel, and parodied music television programs of the era. Artists lip-synched their songs, but were frequently interrupted and insulted by van Oekel. The show had a real coup when Captain Beefheart made an appearance. My father hated this man and his show, so we couldn't see it as kids. We watched Top Pop, the Dutch pop music program of that time.
I am a great fan of Donna Summer by the way. She has a great voice and great songs!

I must say, how well do I agree with your father with that programme. It is as you say, Ridiculous. As an opinion, Donna Summer was wasted in appearance upon that show and with her talent, she would have been better off staying away to make better apperances.
I also liked Donna Summer, and remember her well, her songs were very timely during the disco time.

Is it typical Dutch bluntness, absurdness and idiotic humor, or do you have things like that in Germany, Denmark and England? Or was it something of the seventies, in which people resisted against old values, etiquette and etc.? Dutch People liked the VPRO show ' Van Oekel's Discohoek' because it was absurd, bad taste, ridiculous, somewhat unusual and anarchistic. I see a chaotic version of the Klucht ( Farce) theater what was popular in the Netherlands, Flanders en Germany. FarceIn theatre, a farce is a comedy that aims at entertaining the audience through situations that are highly exaggerated, extravagant, and thus improbable. Farces are often highly incomprehensible plot-wise (due to the many plot twists and random events that occur), but viewers are encouraged not to try to follow the plot in order to avoid becoming confused and overwhelmed. Farce is also characterized by physical humor, the use of deliberate absurdity or nonsense, and broadly stylized performances. Farces have been written for the stage and film. Furthermore, a farce is also often set in one particular location, where all events occur. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farce_(Theater)da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farce Farce er en scenisk genre, der lægger vægt på absurd, visuel eller dialogmæssig humor i højt tempo med parodier og karikerede roller. Wysiłki podejmowane w celu wybrnięcia z sytuacji prowadzą do dalszego zapętlenia i jeszcze większej kompromitacji, aż do momentu, w którym w komicznych punktach kulminacyjnych wady zostają odpowiednio upokarzająco i przykładnie ukarane, po czym następuje względnie szczęśliwe zakończenie.

I remember the Donna Summer songs very well from school parties, discotheques and music festivals where disco and soul music was played. She gained prominence during the disco era of the late-1970s in which she had several hit songs. My favorites where these:
I consider this briljant pop song, State of Independence, as one of the best songs in pop music history. It is very profound and deep, beautiful video and has some gospel roots in my view, but it was in the middle of the disco and pop era.
This video is typical of my teenage, youth years of the eighties. The video, the music, the fashion and the atmosphere is typical eighties.
Eighties like these video's
Other Summer songs I like:

I am glad you enjoyed her music too. Everyone has his or her own memories about her music. For me hit State of Independence is important because it stands symbol for the time I spend with an Amsterdam girlfriend who is stil a girlfriend of mine today. It is our song.
Karl, Donna Summer has a German connection, she speaks German very well and has German friends she calls her German family.
