I see your point in the manner of sensativities of common ownership of firearms and with this, a group depiction of family each with their own firearm.
With the past and currant issues in the USA of mass shootings, it is understandable of the many being fearful and sensitive with common ownership of such. I think perhaps this may be a reaction of regional fears for their is little need for firearm ownership with the need of hunting for the family larder.
This would not be the case in such areas as Northen Canada, for in this regions, it is necessary to hunt to augment the family food supplies. This is especially in the tribal areas in the manner of fishing and hunting.
I am not sure of the America of the 50s as depected in the Sears Add.
