"My good heavens! You lived not a prosperous family!! But a loving family, am I correct?" Yes, we were not wealthy with money. But we had the stability of a family. I think because of the hardships that our family went thru has made me a better and probably a tolerable person of difficult situations. It is not easy to see others with things you desire and you know you can't afford. We lived with an adage-"good things come to those who wait." Even thru the years with my husband and son, we had some rough times-but there are many people who have faced rough times too(like our Polish ancestors) and are still going thru them. Oh Italian food-yummm! A good plate of lasagna, some crusty bread, an anti-pasta salad and a bottle of red wine...what a meal. The spices that the eastern Indian culture uses such as the curry powders are too spicy for me. I have tasted some India food and the spice is overpowering. But some people can tolerate certain amounts of heat/spice in their foods. Does Anna experiment (prepare strange dinners) on/for you? Since I am the chief cook and bottle wash, I try to stay with family favorites-such as soups, stews w/noodles and stuffed cabbage. Occasionally I will break out the cookbook and try a new recipe, but it wouldn't be anything too fancy. Nothing like you would see on the t.v. cooking shows. I don't think my husband would eat anything exotic looking He's the meat, gravy, potatoes or rice kind.

Yes I think you are a very basic, solid and honest person. You man is very fortunate to have you as his help mate...
Anna is a very basic person, I find it difficult to understand her dialect as she is of state Ohio. She is of a family of 13 brothers and sisters. And as so, she is very familiar with beans/rice and soup.
She cooks of for the entire Russian army! And this is for sure...Every dish is perfect, in composition/temperature/ and lay out, it is as of eating in a very excellent hotel..
And she becomes very irritated at me if not to be on exact time!!
Yes she will try different recipes, but most she knows.
We are very different in our desires of eating. She is perfection, whilst I am barbarian. If it has not flies too much, it is eaten. If it is boiled cabbage and fisch, it is eaten.
We do differ in this respect. Although she never questions me of my work, she is very vocal on my eating of fish in the house. For that is forbidden.

And what is wrong with fish? Can you not eat other sea creatures-like shrimp or crab?
Oh yeah...like my husband puts it-"it smells like low tide when you cook it." Do you get your fish fix despite the wifely objections? What kind of fish can you catch? Here in Texas-in the man made lakes-the Texas Parks & Wildlife stock it with striped bass, carp, cat fish-there's perch or brim-those are fun to catch. I am not sure about what is in the Gulf of Mexico-altho I have heard of red snapper and Talipia (sp). I know on the east coast of the states one can catch sand bass, whiting, blue fish-yum my favorite, blow fish, flounder, fluke, crab-which are good eating. Then there are groupers, mussels, eels, squid, and those sea robins. I have never heard of anyine eating a sea robin.

I think you are much better in your area, this for sure...For a sea area, this place stinks for good fishing. In-land, it is rainbow trout, white fish {river} Dolly varden, steel head, and I am not sure what other. The salt water is deplorable. The waters of heavy navigation is very polluted. The tidal basin will clean self to a great extent, but I would not trust fishing close in. Other wise, close to the outer shelf of the coast, it is not bad. There are in season, clams {razer}, striped bass in the surf, {there is a large clam that are difficult to dig for as they tend to burrow more deeply into the tidal sand} Salmon/red snapper/flounder. The inland inlets have a round small clam the stays in the rock and gravel shallow water for that the tide will wash over as it advances and recedes to filter the food it needs. If there is pollution in the waters, the clam will generally be the fore teller. There are abundant crabs, the eatable variety is the Dinginess Crab. These may be caught by wading into the receding tide as it drains out from to sand points. The crab will float a bit above the bottom with the currant. A hand net is usually all a person needs to net up under the crab so as to trap it, then quickly transfer the little bugger into a carrying sack, usually tied around the person waist. The little fellows are very quick and enjoy the prospect to clip those claws on what ever appendage is close and tender. The revenge is dumping them into a large container of boiling water and poking them under with a stick. The best part, is eating them... My fish, I catch it in the tin, usually Mackerel {Chilean}for a sandwich or cold in a dish. I am not so fond of Salmon. Charles

That's what we heard about the eastern seaboard-that the ocean was so polluted, that the fishing was terrible. Friends would say that all kinds of junk was drifting ashore. I know in Galveston, TX there was some major oil pollution in the water and on the beaches. Industrial technology students from our high school chartered a boat and went to go see all the pollution for themselves. Some of the country kids never saw the ocean before-so it was a real nice experience for them-despite the pollution.
The Texas inland or man made lakes are pretty clean-altho eventually they too will be polluted by the vessels that sail them. But people, who don't care, throw paper trash and Styrofoam cups into the water. Fish don't eat paper... nor do they drink outta those cups.
