Star Firestar M43The Star Firestar is a series of single-action semi-automatic pistol consisting of four models that received the 1991 Handgun of the Year Award from Guns & Ammo magazine. The Firestar was available in 9 mm Para (M-43), .40 S&W (M-40), and .45 ACP(M-45) calibers, all having a single-stack magazine. A double-stack 9mm version (M-243) was also available and was commonly referred to by the unofficial name "Firestar Plus". The Firestar was produced by the now defunct Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A. in Eibar, Spain until 1994. The Firestar was imported into the United States by Interarms of Alexandria, Virginia. Although its external appearance resembles a compact M1911, the Firestar is different in several respects. For example, the Firestar does not have the 1911's grip safety. The Firestar's safety features include an automatic safety at the firing pin (a feature not included in the 1911's original design but often found in more modern 1911 variants). The Firestar has operating procedures analogous to those of the Colt 1911: it is single action, and meant to be carried in Condition One (cocked and locked), with a cartridge in the chamber, cocked hammer and locked manual safety. The Firestar is a compact, reliable and accurate handgun well-suited for backup or concealed carry. Its single-stack design sacrifices the superior magazine capacity of a double-stack, but permits a slim profile prized by many for concealed carry. While heavier than more modern handguns of comparable size made with today's composite materials, many shooters find the added heft provides a more stable shooting platform that improves accuracy. On 6 May 2002 Volkert van der Graaf used the M43 to assassinate Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn. Star is well known for their very well designs and have earnt the respect of many that use them. It would appear Star has once again out done them selves with this new design as the Model 43 in 9MM. Their are many good aspects of weight in such a hand gun, for it absorbs a large portion of felt recoil and the single stack symplifies the ammuniction feed feed mechanisum.
By all appearances the weapon is very well crafted and an excellent finish that should wear well..
I do hate the reason these weapons must be carried for, but am greatfull they are available.

the Great PanjandrumThis was an experimental weapon design during WW2, created by the British Admiralty’s Directorate of Miscellaneous Weapons Development(DMWD) Panjandrum, also known as The Great Panjandrum, was a massive, rocket-propelled, explosive-laden cart designed by the British military during World War II. It was one of a number of highly experimental projects, including Hajile and the Hedgehog, that were developed by the Admiralty's Directorate of Miscellaneous Weapons Development (DMWD) in the final years of the war. The Panjandrum was never used in battle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PanjandrumCelebrating its anniversary

More Shootings in America More of the same, life in America goes on. Think back to the 2009 time period and national politicians calling for "second amendment solutions" and quoting Jefferson on feeding the Tree of Liberty with blood of tyrants: "what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms. the remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. what signify a few lives lost in a century or two? the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. it is it’s natural manure." Can it be that non did suspect that the nation would listen and take action? Is it the shock or poor memory that brings non of this to mind today? There were three shootings reported that day (Washington, San Francisco and some unnamed location that was mentioned in passing. So normal has it become.

J.J.
Some how my thoughts were you guys {Marines} used the M-16 in Vietnam, it would appear my education is continuing. Some years past, I was to have the opportunity of firing the M-1 whist at one of our weapons firing range. My impression of it was good, just thought it was heavy is all. We called it the 7.62 MM but the Americans used the term, 30 cal.
As a passing thought, I did not get an M1 thumb whilst loading. We were certainly warned about that.

Karl Karl, I arrived in Vietnam with out my service weapon as we were immediately issued new M-14 automatics. The weapon I left in the states was my M-1 and 45 Cal m-1911. Loved the M-14 but then they changed us out to the M-16 and I hated it. the M-1 was 30.06 cal and they M-14 was 7.62. give me a good ole 30.06 cal weapon any day for penetration power.
