This is a ridiculous situation that shows how people are split and divided. Donald Tusk, do not confuse with Donald Trump, was elected to head European Council for a second term and Polish government is extremely unhappy about it. They had their own candidate. They would like to imprison Tusk if they could! www.thenews.pl/1/10/Artykul/297144,Donald-Tusk-chosen-to-head-European-Council-for-second-term Tusk was supported by 27 of the 28 members of the European Union. The Polish government was the only member which did not stand behind Tusk. The governing Law and Justice (PiS) party in Warsaw had said it would “do everything to make sure that vote is not held [on Thursday]”. PiS had put forward its own candidate, MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, to take on Tusk, who they feel has overstepped his mandate and interfered in local Polish politics. In a tweet following the vote, Tusk wrote: “Grateful for trust & positive assessment by [the European Commission]. I will do my best to make the EU better.”

It was sad to see how much hate it is between current populist Polish government and the rest of Europe. Even Hungary supported Tusk, with its right wing government. Beata Szydlo, Polish prime-minister, felt very uncomfortable.
I think, other countries supported Tusk knowing that he would not represent only nationalistic interests of his country, which is good for Europe!
Here is a story from Skynews:

Here is BBC article, that explains also EU structure: www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-39222442Poland fails to stop Donald Tusk EU re-electionWhy is the Polish government so hostile to Mr Tusk? Mr Tusk was prime minister from 2007-2014, leading the centre-right Civic Platform. Much of PiS leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski's hostility towards Mr Tusk goes back to the 2010 plane crash in Russia which killed his twin Lech Kaczynski, then Poland's president, and all other 95 people on board. The plane crashed in dense fog. Official investigations ruled pilot error was the principal cause. But Mr Tusk's government was accused of not doing enough to explain the causes of the crash while critics said he should not have allowed the Russians to conduct the first crash investigation. Under the Chicago Convention, which covers international air travel, the state on whose territory a crash occurs bears responsibility for conducting the investigation.

This proves that they are idiots and don't serve all Poles. In the Dutch or German case the Dutch or German politicians of most political parties would support the one national candidate, except Geert Wilders and Alternative für Deutschland ofcourse.
