It was Jim who was just recently saying that he will have Polish sausages, here is Idaho we have nothing like that. Does anybody of you buy any of the foods through the internet store? Please, tell me how do you get Polish food where you live.

Jaga,
I have never bought it over the net. But if you can buy some pork butts (they have just the right amount of fat) and corse grind them put in the spices you have Kielbasa. If you want casings try your local oriental store if you have one. Those can be ordered over the net since they are soaked in salt.

I made Italian sausage once. I guess I am lucky as we have a Polish community that i am close to. And just recently a Polish store opened about a block from me. They have many sausages that looked like the type my Aunt would have when I visited in Poland. It also smells inside just like it. When I walk in it is a trip back to Poland. They get many things from their and also from Toronto which also has a great Polish population (actually I think the UN moved there) Most of the bread is from Toronto. That is one thing I miss the most. Most of the small bakeries closed due to those big jerks like Wally-Mart and Major food markets. Here in Rochester it is Wegmans (local food chain) In Wegmans you can find just about anything in there food wise. Many outsiders are just fascinated by this store.

My friend Lotte who is German buys not from the net (stubborn old fashioned and hard headed German will not buy a computer, personally I think she is afraid of them) but catalog. They do have a website. Since she is in Arizona she buys from catalogs (I need to find my catalog for the name and will post later)or has them shipped fro Germany. We both get our lebkuchen from Schmidts (yum). When she is in Phoenix she goes to this great German deli (and right next door is a German Restaurant which I think was transported since it is so authentic in food and atmosphere. You don't find too many restaurants that are like that. Also not sure since she is near Vegas if they sell any thing besides beer in the newly opened Hof Brau Haus.

We actually have a Wurst Konig Numer 1 here in San Diego. Its the closest to Polish we can get. They make their own sausage. I'm not fond of their blood sausage however. But they do have warm veal loaf baked daily and it is great on hard rolls.

Jim,
it is a pitty that I did not know you when I was in San Diego in the Spring, maybe you would buy me some sausage then.
We do not Texas for Christmas, John's (my husband) parents will get us possibly some good German sausage (Wurst).

Jaga,
Next time your here let me know. I have never had warm veal loaf before and they make it here. I can get cold veal loaf but not warm.It looks like a loaf of bread and you buy it by how thick a slice you want. They also sell aufsnitt as well. Plus black forest ham and various other hams but no Polish ham.

My grandmother use to make her own sausages. I have looked high and low for polish sausage with mustard seeds. Did anyone ever have it made using mustard seeds before? It was the best! My mouth waters just thinking about it.

GM,
I have used mustard seed in all my Polish sausage recipes. Plus lots of garlic.
