J.J.
Thank you for presenting these paintings by Mr. Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski. My self am one of the unwashed multitudes of the ignorant masses that populate our known world. But, non-the-less, I do find enjoyment and admiration of such fine paintings are presented {One being oil whilst the other water colour} For in them, is life, joy and sharing that is presented in the manner that begs to be seen and appreciated. For with this, is the bright colours that spring out to catch the emagination that is contagious to the manner of the individuals as presented in their moments of shared pleasure.
Thank you once again for presenting
Karl

John, these paintings are simply beautiful and they depict lives of peasants. My parents had one small picture of Falat - a head of a peasant girl in a kerchief. My oldest brother inherited it. I wish I had a copy of the picture to share. It is beautiful!

Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski album - 2017Salve, lately I have acquired this new book-album on Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski and his art. He was a Polish painter who worked and sold mostly in Munich, Bavarian Kingdom during the pre-World War I period (actually died in 1915). He was a painter of horses and wolves, and author of numerous genre paintings, who was staying away from historic and so called patriotic paintings popular amongst his many Polish colleagues during the Partitions period. view the whole album here: dariocaballeros.blogspot.de/2017/10/alfred-wierusz-kowalski-album-2017.html?m=1

Also do I enjoy the paintings of Alfred Wierusa Kowalsti, two I have recognized as the lone wolf and one of the wedding party in a wagon on the move.
The remainder I am unaware of. These paintings are so vibrant and with the colour of life/humour and laughter that is so heart warming to view.
Thank you for sharing.

John,
yes, these both pictures are very similar to the Hucul's girl in a kerchief. It had vivid colors like these two pictures.
The paintings you posted are vivid, full of life and joy, that it almost feels that lives of these people were so much more interesting that our lives are. In the way they were, but they also had their problems.

John,
the force of group prayer is amazing. This was a battle when farmers were main participants under Kosciuszko.
The Battle of Racławice was one of the first battles of the Polish Kościuszko Uprising against Russia. It was fought on 4 April 1794 near the village of Racławice in Lesser Poland.[1]:185
The battle site is one of Poland's official national Historic Monuments (Pomnik historii), as designated May 1, 2004. Its listing is maintained by the National Heritage Board of Poland.
After the battle, Kościuszko paraded before his troops in a sukmana, a traditional attire worn in Lesser Poland, in honour of the bravery of the peasants, whose charge ensured the quick capture of the Russian artillery.[1]:186 He also praised Wojciech Bartosz Głowacki, a peasant who was the first to capture the cannon (he is visible in Matejko's painting, above).[2] He smothered its fuse with his hat before it fired.[1]:185 In return he received an award of nobility, his freedom, a tract of land and made standard-bearer.[1]:186
The victory was subsequently promoted in Poland as a major success and helped in spreading the Kościuszko Uprising to other areas of Poland and instigating the Warsaw Uprising of 1794. Also, the participation of peasant volunteers was seen by many as the starting point of the political evolution of Polish peasantry from serfs to equally entitled citizens of the nation.
