She was the most famous Polish rock icon, charismatic, energetic... she was sick with cancer for the last 5 years and died at age 67. On the personal note, she attended the same high school I did in Krakow, just many years ealrier. www.thenews.pl/1/11/Artykul/375171,Rock-icon-Kora-dies Famous Polish rock icon Kora has died at the age of 67 after a five-year-long battle with cancer. Photo: Herrzipp/Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 3.0) Olga Sipowicz, the vocalist, songwriter and poet better known as Kora rose to fame as the lead singer of rock group Maanam, which was popular from the early 1980s until it disbanded ten years ago. She recorded 33 singles and 18 albums with Maanam. The band's success was largely attributed to Kora's lyrics and charisma. During her career, she won all of Poland's leading music industry awards. In 2014 she was awarded Poland's silver Gloria Artis medal for service to the arts. She is survived by her second husband, Kamil Sipowicz, and two sons. Jaga
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the loss of one of your classmates. Cancer is such a terrible desease and spares so few from its effects.
I am not sure how close you and Kora were, but still, I am very sorry for your loss.
Karl

I am sorry for her Polish and foreign (Russian, Slovak, Ukrainian, Czech, Hungarian, German, Baltic and other) fans. She was an important modern Polish rock vocalist and songwriter.

For Polish speakers.
For us, the non Polish speakers (Karl, Pieter, John, Kaima and probably Jeanne) you see the images from a beautiful characteristic, typical Western slav, Polish lady.
In her looks she has the slavic features like Russian, Serb, Croat, Czech and Slovak ladies have too. This is a typical Polish lady.
Her music and that of her colleagues was a mildly post-punk sound. According to Wikipedia the sound of her Maanam band in the 1980s could be considered a cross between Nina Hagen, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Blondie.

Jaga, Maanam - Cykady na cykladach sounds like Ska punk to me with a funky twitch to it. Her Slavic Polish sounds less harsh than the heavy German Hamburg dialect songs of Nina Hagen. Her life was not in vain, she left a musical heritage and she will live on in her music. Others will sing and perform her songs too and probably make covers of that. Musicians always live on in the music of others. Cheers, Pieter

Karl, no I did not know Kora personally, she attended the same highschool many years before me. But thanks for your sympathy.
Pieter, yes, she was rebellious, a bit punk. She reminds me probably Sinead O'Connor personality-wise. She became a part of Maanam and married Jackowski, main force behind the group. Unfortunately Jackowski became an alcoholics later in life, they had to split.
