Pieter,
I understand the sensitivies about blackface in Netherlands... and also a sadness that something so ingrained in Dutch culture can be lost. I think these protests and manifestations will last for some years to come.

Well, I suppose it is the time of year for the protesters to protest some thing, and once again trying to push their will over the others. But then, if not against Zwarte Piet, it would be yelling that Donald Duck is Porno Graphic for not wearing trousers to cover him self with.
It would so appear no matter what is public, there will always be the few that are unhappy.
Long live Mr. Zwarte Piet and his boss, The honourable Sinterklaas. May they both do what they do in bringing joy to the many children they serve...

It becomes more tense every year and both sides have their anti-Black Pete and pro-Black Pete organisations.
Last years the anti vs pro tensions nearly escalated on a Frisian highway when Pro-Black Pete Frisians blocked to road to prevent a Anti-Black Pete bus with activists to enter a Frisian city.

Frisian Pro-Black Pete activists blocked the road for anti-Black Pete activists (demonstrators) on the highway before the Frisian city of Dokkum.
