Unique writings of an unknown soldier in the Ľubovnian Museum: The author of the World War I diary
The Ľubovnian Museum searches for an unknown soldier from the First World War!
At Stará Ľubovňa, they found the diary of a soldier of the Austro-Hungarian army, but they could not find out the name of the man. The museum released the book and believes that someone was going to find out who can give him his name.
The archivist and documentary of the Lubovna Museum, Františka Marcinová, met the journal for the first time in 2014. "The Moravian natives who live in Stare Ľubovna brought it to the museum 23 years ago. They found it in an old house, " says Marcin.
The unique journal has been in the depository for many years, and she has been given the task of processing it. "We knew we had a soldier's log, but when it was processed we found it was written in 1914 and 1915. It is unique because it also includes photographs," explains the archivist.
He was a Czech and a photographer
From the records of the soldier, he appears to have been a photographer and he came from the Czech Republic, even though it is obvious to him in which the regiment probably served. But the museum has not yet been able to find out who it is. "The photographers were not very important at the time. For us, it's an advantage that all of the produced photographs have not only been commanded, but some have been preserved and stored in the diary, "Marcin added.
The soldier also mentions the names of colonels, commanders or captains in his diary, but he did not write his name anywhere. "Maybe it was somewhere in the last few days, but someone broke it, so it can not be ascertained," adds Marcin. With the help of the Arts Support Fund, the journal has published books, and can be bought at the treasuries of the Ľubovnian Museum.
