Pieter Now is that not just something! Such a large number of crows or Ravens {not sure} Ravens usually but not always fly higher then Crows. Ravens also are very smart and make good pets, I have watched them break walnuts by picking them up and dropping them on hard serfaces to break the shell, then light to eat their work. The down side though, is they will rob nest, kill and eat hatchlings. animals.mom.me/meaning-crows-circling-8345.htmlKarl

Pieter, maybe these beautiful birds in their mass have a warning for the European politicians? Karl, I did not realize that ravens fly together, i thought these are migrating birds.

Jaga Thank you for your learnt reply, for I stand corrected, crows do fly in flocks, Ravens do not, they {Ravens} fly in pairs or family groups. Thank you for the correction, I had known this but mis-stated and as result, possibly miss-lead others. Karl

Karl and Jaga,
The video shows in fact a large flock of common starling in Friesland, in the North of the Netherlands.
In this video you see a large flock of common starling in the bird paradise Lauwersmeer a man-made lake in the north of the Netherlands, on the border of the provinces of Groningen and Friesland.
The Lauwersmeer was formed on 23 May 1969, when the dike between the bay called Lauwers Sea and the Wadden Sea was closed. It is noted for birdwatching.
Cheers, Pieter

In the early morning just before sunrise, tens of thousands of starlings fly out en masse. This takes 2 minutes at most. A beautiful spectacle in the autumn days in Culemborg. Culemborg is a municipality and a city in the centre of the Netherlands. The city has a population of 27,973, and is situated just south of the Lek river. Direct train lines run from the railway station towards the cities of Utrecht and Den Bosch.
