Karl,
interesting thing about Russia's influence in Africa. When I was a young girl and woman in Poland we had many students from Africa in Krakow from the countries dominated by Soviet Union influence.
I am hearing now that China is a big influence in Africa. What do you know about it Karl?

Jaga Yes, you are correct with China, with them is United States interest with thier Africa Command Centre: www.africom.mil/www.africom.mil/News/OperationsChina is no longer the stranger standing in the rain. In the recent years has built up to being another big kid on the block. It {China} has an industrial strength that has over the past few years with an out put fueled by Western Nations importing by the nature of Chinese labour being more cost effective in to their domestic retail markets. Whilst in doing so, has created industrial strength, with this, was/is the need for high out put machinery imported from Western States. Many Western states have shared industrial manufacturing secrets with Chinese business/Industrial managers the manner of production/wast reduction for high out put coupled with cost effectiveness. For as with the above though, has been the cost of energy consumption which in turn means the search for resources and Africa is a prime target for obtaining both raw materials and energy. At present, there are three big kids on the block being: United States/China and Russia, no one in their right mind wishes to tangle with either one. Karl

Karl,
you definitively know what is going on in the world politics. What is the end goal of China in Africa? To have cheap resources, technology or monetary gain? Does China has a specific African region that it invest more than in other or specific resource like petroleum?
What about Japan?

Africa is rich in mineral wealth as what first attracted European states in past, and of course circumstances and time ruined their dreams of riches. The Chinese though, hold a different approach to the lands of Africa, for they see the same thing, but not in riches, but apportunity. For the Chinese do not just take over a land, but build up the infrastructure to protect their business investments such as banking and finance. For in resulting effects of some years past with the black take over from white rule. Black africans especialy South Africans, suffered a lack of business sense and management practices. With this, the Chinese are good at teaching such skills and are willing to do so, not for the reason they are so good natured, but the reason of protecting their investments. With this, whilst do so, are also developing some very good business partners for the future. www.controlrisks.com/our-thinking/insights/chinese-investment-in-south-africaKarl

Karl,
good points. Do you believe that Chinese do more good than bad for Africa by protecting their businesses but also by investing in poor countries and sharing their working skills?
