This graphic shows where the votes for the Dutch Labour party candidate Frans Timmermans came from. The majority of his votes came from voters who voted for other parties during the 21 march Provinical elections and former non voters (the grey section, 9%), only 42% came from Labour party voters. Remarkable are the 10 % of his votes came from former Greenleft voters, the largest competitor of the Labour Party on the Left. GreenLeft has 14 seats in the Dutch parliament, the Labour party only 9. The victory of the Labour party is remarkable, because the Dutch Labour party in contrast with the German SPD, French Parti Socialiste and the British Labour party is a small party today. In the Dutch parliament the center right and rightwing parties dominate.

Pieter,
I am glad with this outcome. Do you think that Timmermans's personality also played a role? I liked the way he was vocal against Polish populist government

I voted for Sophie in 't Veld (born 13 September 1963) is a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 party. She was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2004, and reelected in 2009 and 2014. She was her party's top candidate for the three elections and has been its leader in the European Parliament since her first election. She participated in this debate. She is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) fraction in the Euroepan parliament.
In this debate on the left side you see 2 pro European, liberal and Social Democratic politicians and on the right side you see 2 national conservative, rightwing poplist and nationalist politicians. Next to Sophie in 't Veld you see Dominik Tarczyński, candidate for the European elections for the Polish national-conservative government party, Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość), the German politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Joseph Leinen (born 6 April 1948) from Germany, who is a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), part of the Party of European Socialists (PES), and last but not least Maximilian Krah of the National conservative Alternative for Germany (Alternative für Deutschland) party from Germany, who is a candidate for the European elections , and number 3 on the list of the AfD.
The following video's show the reason why I voted for Sophie in 't Veld.
