Our women are good. They have to play against nations which have very strong women soccer traditions and funding, like the USA and England. In the USA soccer is a female sport and therefor the USA team is very strong. The British are fierce rivals of the Americans. In the Netherlands soccer was and is a male sport and from that male soccer, the female soccer developed. In the Netherlands women soccer is a rather new phenomenon. In the past little girls played in mixed team with boys. Today there are a lof of girl soccer teams, but boys and male soccer stays larger. The large money and focus is on male soccer. We are an European nation after all and soccer is the main European sport. After soccer cycling (Tour de France, Giro 'd Italia), Tennis, ice skating, swimming and running (jogging/Marathon walking) follow.
