Eduard Chmelár's commentary: We do not want foreign soldiers in Slovakia. Period!
Eduard Chmelár08/19/2019
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is continuing negotiations on the conclusion of the so-called. defense cooperation agreements with the US. It also stressed that the main agenda of the Slovak Republic in negotiations with the American side is to ensure that the treaty respects the sovereignty of the Slovak Republic. I have a better proposal for them than to secure our sovereignty: not to conclude such a contract at all.
Today we know that diplomacy has been deceiving and misleading from the beginningthe public. From the beginning, when I discovered what this treaty is all about. First, they argued that such contracts were not published prior to approval, although we know that this is not true (the European Union even published a mandate for the preparatory negotiations for a new trade agreement with the US after the pressure of civil society). They then argued that there was actually no draft contract, only work material, although it became clear today that a 30-point contract with structured terms was structured on the table. Finally, under pressure from the public, they retreated to make the treaty available only to Members for inspection directly at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But that is no longer enough. Citizens, especially those who live in the immediate vicinity of airports, have the right to say whether they agree to build US military ammunition depots in a densely populated area. And we all have the right to speak,
The Minister of Resignation Miroslav Lajčák (let us not forget that he remains unconstitutional in his post) is an untrustworthy person after a series of open lies, who would sell us for a lens of lentils. He is deceiving as he did five years ago when he claimed that there should be only a warehouse in Poprad, not a base. As if it were not ammunition depots that are among the first bombing objects. And in this respect, I do not trust Prime Minister Pellegrini, who promised Donald Trump for a picture from the White House Oval Office with a bunch of zeal and without the knowledge of the government or parliament that two percent of GDP would be spent on military spending two years earlier than planned. indifference, just realize the degree of our true sovereignty if the Prime Minister promises to the President of another state something that is an internal affair of the Slovak Republic, that is, where our own money will go from our state budget). When the scandal broke out at the end of February, Pellegrini pretended to be a pseudo-case and would rather address real issues such as health and education. It was a blatantly hypocritical pose, because the huge resources he wants to earmark for armaments will be missing from the very resort. Moreover, two months later, when he was admitted to the US President, he bragged about this upcoming treaty, which he was not interested in a few weeks ago.
Slovakia has to be very careful, because at the moment the silence around the treaty is not a retreat, but a tactic to blunt the attention of the public, which is used very often. For example, the scandalous Multilateral Investment Agreement (MAI) that outraged the public in the 1990s returned to the TTIP table and when Europeans also rejected this trap, negotiations on a new treaty began - but always with the same philosophy. Similarly, in this case - the form is changing, the principle remains: to get US soldiers here. I repeat, it is not about any “help”, as is clear from documents published directly by the Pentagon, three quarters of the money offered is not an investment in the property of the SR, but in the property of the USA. The US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell also suggested something about the intentions of the US side earlier this month, when he threatened to withdraw US troops from the country and move them eastwards. The Germans (unlike us) reject Washington's pressures to increase armaments, which Trump's diplomat described as "shameful".
The struggle to prevent the US military presence in our territory is not just a struggle for the rejection of some US soldiers, their weapons and ammunition in Slovakia, although this is a serious issue and is of particular concern to the inhabitants of the Kitchens and Sliač. It is one of the most important struggles for the character of our society, and those politicians who have been unconscious of the discovery and disclosure of this affair from the fury, unlike many people, are very aware of it. It is a controversy over who is serving political power in this state, how we deal with citizens' rights, how much we are truly free, and how important democracy is in a country in which the most fundamental issues cannot really affect citizens. Pellegrini's view that he would understand this discussion "if there was already a definite text on which nothing could be changed", is a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation. Discussion at the stage when nothing can be changed is unnecessary. It is false to reassure people that everything will ultimately be in the hands of the parliament, because the experience so far with the National Council of the Slovak Republic is such that, under strong propaganda and pressure, it has approved everything they have served, including illegal military aggression against Iraq. They've always deceived us. Right now, it is important that the Slovak government publishes a clear and unambiguous starting position - similar to the mandates published in comparable cases by Western European states. In a clear position, I am referring to the totally unequivocal rejection of any American military presence, not just a permanent one. The tactics these hypocrites apply to us is a method of slow cooking a frog who, by realizing what is actually going on, cannot jump out of the pot. At first they kept us from discussing something like this at all. Then they pretended that they just wanted to help us. Then they said they were only negotiating some warehouses. Then they admitted that some soldiers would still be there, but not many. However, the position paper, whose legal analysis was published by the Ministry of Defense, clearly states that if we accepted the US conditions, it would mean a clear loss of sovereignty of the Slovak Republic. So it is high time to stop introducing and playing a clean game. If this political representation still serves the Slovak Republic, then it is primarily to agree inside it and not to negotiate with the Americans in a non-transparent form of cabinet diplomacy. but there won't be many. I know how militaristic circles hate me. Propagandist Juraj Smatana said almost with tears on the verge that I am a saboteur of defense cooperation. Globsec says I ruined their year of work. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cannot come to my name. But in full consciousness and best conscience, I say: thirty years ago (when people like Lajčák or Kukan were still attached to the Kremlin's breast), as a 18-year-old student, I demanded the departure of Soviet troops from Czech-Slovakia. I remember the feeling of euphoria and happiness when our last occupation soldier left our homeland. And we did not do it to force us here after three decades, with all our historical experience of the German and Soviet occupation (of our then allies), to force us to be soldiers. This country is free and will remain so,
The collaborators have always tried it for us. First, a treaty with the Greater Reich, then an agreement on the temporary deployment of Soviet troops, and now a treaty on defense cooperation with the US. Not. In Slovakia, after our historical experience, we do not want any foreign soldiers. We know how easy it is to let them in here and how bloodily they get out of here. This hard-to-test people have suffered it often and only a fool does not learn from history. The emerging political movement Socialisti.sk will not allow any form of US military presence on the territory of the Slovak Republic and we will do our utmost to get these plans off the table.
