I watched most of it.
So far, between this one and the first one("A Man who became Pope") that aired several months ago, I thought the first one was much much better.

Husband and I watched the second half - 9-10pm. Have the first half on tape - no modern TiVo for us! - to watch on Friday. Were at the library until after 8pm doing our weekly volunteer stint.
Liked what we saw, but, of course, never did get to see the other show...will look for it in rebroadcasts. The likeness and characterization seemed to be on target...especially the debilitation caused by the Parkinson's.

I slogged through it as well. I thought it was .... interesting. The Hallmark version was MUCH better in my opinion. This one felt rushed ( as if they wanted to get a film out as soon as possible). It was like watching a "Cliff Notes" version of his life. No real substance. I have to say that I was disappointed.

The Popes first name was Lolec. I have not heard this before and does it have an English counterpart.

Yes, Nancy is right with Lolek. Lolek is used as a nickname for Karol. It is really hard to do a really good film about the pope without too many simplifications. But I agree with you, even if this actor had a better makeup in some parts, (but cardinal Wyszynski did not look at all like ythe original), this movie was worse than Hallmart's

Jaga, IMO the Pope was no kisser, as he risked his life by triggering the downfall of Communism in East Europe & Soviet Union, and fought anti-Semitism. Keep in mind that Israel includes Christian as well as Jewish & Muslim holy places. I found the TV drama: "HAVE NO FEAR: THE LIFE OF POPE JOHN PAUL II (ABC, PG),” quite enlightening, especially the information about Karol Wotyla that I didn't know before (I’m not Catholic). I was in tears over his compassion & coolness during difficult circumstances in Poland under the Nazis in WW2, then the Communists. He forgave his assassin who IMO was brainwashed by Bulgarian secret police under orders of Soviet KGB. IMO the drama should have referred to Karol Wotyla as a play write in Poland, e.g., he wrote: . David . Job . The jeweler's shop www.michaeljournal.org/JP25.HTMMoreover: www.nclci.org/News/general_news.htmISRAEL NAMES GALILEE PARK AFTER POPE JOHN PAUL II (5/24) The ECUMENICAL NEWS INTERNATIONAL reports that Israel has honored Pope John Paul II for his friendship towards the Jewish people by naming a Galilee park after him and by striking a postage stamp in his memory. A park at the Mount of Beatitudes in Galilee, where Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount, will be dedicated to Pope John Paul II. In 2000, during his historic visit to the Holy Land, the pontiff had celebrated Mass at the site overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Some questions about the TV drama: . When a Communist told Wotyla that the new world of Socialism has no place for God, why didn’t Wotyla challenge him? I’ll wager today that guy is a Capitalist & attends Church. . What kind of vermin shot a priest who disagreed with the Communist system? Carl
