Jaga,
If the situation is not already serious, tragic and dramatic enough the Asian communities in Europe and other parts of the world which are not Asian suffer a lot. On Dutch television, radio and in newspapers and magazines there was attention for hostile, aggressive, distant behaviour towards Chinese people and Asian looking people like adopted Korean people, Vietnamese people, Indonesian people with a lighter skin (looking Chinese and being mistaken for Chinese), Thai people, Burmese people, Philippinian people, Thibetan people and people from Singapore, Taiwan and Suriname with a Chinese heritage. The Chinese community has always been a very hard working, productive, positive community in the Netherlands. Dutch people love Chinese food, Chinese restaurants and Chinese New Year Celebration.
Today Chinese people face discrimination, xenophobia, anti-Asian racism and where they never complained (the grandfathers and fathers always said to their childeren; "Never complain, bare the insults, but work hard, be a good citizen, be good to your family and the Chinese community you belong too, in that way you show who we Chinese people are." Today for the first time young Chinese people stood up and adressed the discrimination, stereotypes and racism Asian people face in the Netherlands [Europe], they aren't silent anymore.). Now Dutch people and Europeans know that there isn't only racism against Blacks and Middle eastern people, but also against Asians. It always existed, but with the Corona virus the anti-Asian sentiment and xenophobia has risen to alarming levels. Quite sad, for these hard working, disciplined, fine Dutch compatriots of Chinese descent. And with them the Asian Dutch people of Indo-European, Jaoanese, Korean and Thai descent, who are mistaken for Chinese, but assaulted.
Chinese restaurants are struggling to survive today, because they lost half of their clients and in some cases 2/3d of their clients. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Chinese_sentiment_in_the_United_States edition.cnn.com/2020/03/03/uk/coronavirus-assault-student-london-scli-intl-gbr/index.htmlCheers, Pieter

Hello Pieter, your post was over a month ago. We are in a very different place now. It looks that the worst outbreak is in the US. There are some positive signs in Europe and lets hope that there would be something good from this very difficult situations, like a global solidarity. The work of the healthcare workers was appreciated today by three US national TV stations together with music stars from GB, South Africa and the US. This was worth to watch and allowed us to stay together in this moment.

This is most distressing for such a situation of cause from media disinformation {lies} to be spread to such people as these of the Ukrainian village as described. For it is completely uncalled for and very criminal as described. For frightened people become very dangerous when frightened to this degree.
In times of such situations as being experienced at present, people need accurate information to fill in the blanks of their minds. Other wise, it is then to place blame upon those most vulnerable.
