The PaterNoster elevators in the IG Farben building are famous and famously dangerous for the nervous and uncoordinated. Lives have been lost and limbs broken jumping on and off. Most of us found it rather interesting to use, and very efficient. The university is now said to have promised to keep these historical lifts, but I see in the video that they restrict the cabin to 1 person at a time. This is a longer video that I intended, but its 6 minutes cover the history well and show some of the surrounding grounds at the start. I worked in the second building behind the main building and did some work with asbestos abatement in the main building.

Interesting story Kaima. Thanks for bringing your personal experience in Germany up and this interesting articles and video's. During the war time in Europe people did many things to avoid being killed by German or allied bombings. Basements, cellars, fortified bunkers, places outside their cities or towns where they felt safe. I wonder how much people in total were killed by bombardments by Planes in Europe during the Second World War. That must have been a lot of folks!

Kai
Your stories of your experience in post war Germany are always very interesting, as described of the I.G. Farben lifts. I had heard of them but not to experience them as you have.. I am sorry a US lady solder lost her life in one.
