The type of folks in Eindhoven look like the hard violent core of the Eindhoven PSV soccer club Hooligan scene. They have a long history of violence against rival Hooligan firms of FC Den Bosch, Club Brugge, Royal Standard de Liège, Feijenoord Rotterdam, Ajax Amsterdam, FC Utrecht, Vitesse Arnhem, ADO Den Haag, and other Dutch, Belgian, German, French and probably Polish Hooligan firms too. And a long heritage of clashes with the Eindhoven police and the riot police (ME) of Den Bosch, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Amsterdam, Arnhem and Groningen. Trained in aggression, violence, vandalism and man to man combat. To put things into perspective. These Hooligans turn up at anti-virus demonstrations of New Age, Conspiracy theory, fringe Rightwing and Leftwing groups.

In Eindhoven the situation turned dangerous when there were armed demonstrators amongst the mob. The Police was pelted with bricks, street stones, iron rods, bottles and knives and swords. People attacked the police with knives and swords. I think the authorities will consider using special police forces, special Marines with police duties and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (MP; Military Police).

Pieter
It is such shame of such wanton destruction of property, certainly not the wishes or work of most common honest folk. This is the work of criminals and thugs with the primary thinking of committing destruction. For these are businesses that form their support systems for shopping and services.
It is most logical that force must be met with greater equal force, if these criminal thugs wish to continue their currant actions, then other then police forces need be used until a peaceable time is met.
Times are bad enough with out these types of individuals.

Karl,
Very serious messages in the Newshour (Nieuwsuur) tv program on the Dutch National tv yesterday. The Amsterdam police chief was a guest next to the mayor of Nijmegen, chairman of the safety region Southeast Gelderland, and chairman of the National Security Council and a journalist of the Brabant Broadcast Corporation (Omroep Brabant) and a Dutch terrorist expert. All stated the seriousness of the extreme violence and said that peaceful demonstrators were joined by disturbed individuals hit economically and financially by the Covid-19 pandemic, conspiracy theorists and ultra Rightwing fringe groups and soccer Hooligans. A toxic explosive mix.
Cheers, Pieter

The Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈneːdərˌlɑntsə ˈʔɔmrup ˌstɪxtɪŋ]; abbr. NOS [ˌɛnoːˈɛs]; English: Dutch Broadcast Foundation) is one of the broadcasting organisations making up the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system. It has a special statutory obligation to make news and sports programmes for the three Dutch public television channels and the Dutch public radio services. How to proceed after 'worst riots in 40 years'?The fierce confrontations between the rioters and the police that took place in various places in the country last weekend have not been shown in 40 years, according to the Dutch Police Association. What can we expect in the coming days, how can we prepare and what additional resources are still on the table?
What can still be expected in the coming days?
New riots would be planned in groups on the Telegram chat service. NOS tech editor Joost Schellevis reports that a Roosendaal group, for example, has called on "everyone" to bring a Molotov cocktail tonight.
Gerrit van de Kamp, chairman of the ACP police union, does not want to anticipate more disturbances in the coming days. "There is no point in speculating. It could be, we will see." According to Van de Kamp, there are various ways in which the police can prepare themselves if confrontations with rioters come again.
Jan Struijs of the Dutch Police Union (NPB) says it is important to keep an eye on mobilizations on social media and to stay in touch with youth workers, who receive signals in their network.

Hubert Bruls, chairman of the Security Council, calls on organizers of demonstrations against corona measures to "think about what you are getting into", he said in NOS Radio 1 Journaal. Bruls: "Well-meaning protesters should consider whether there might be other ways to convey their message."
Berend Roorda, assistant professor of demonstration law at the University of Groningen, understands this call. "It is not that the organizers of the demonstrations are responsible for this violence. But it is good to be aware: what do I want to convey with my demonstration? We also saw last year that relatively peaceful demonstrations against the corona measures were hijacked. by rioters ", Roorda explains.
At the same time, he emphasizes that the right to demonstrate is an important fundamental right. "Mayors have to take that into account. But also the protesters themselves. Some of them ruin it for the rest."Hubert Bruls, chairman of the Security Council, calls on organizers of demonstrations against corona measures to "think about what you are getting into"Berend Roorda, assistant professor of demonstration law at the University of Groningen

How can municipalities prepare?Violent rioters confront the police in the old The Hague working class neighbourhood Schilderswijk.Eindhoven mayor Jorritsma said his city was well prepared for any disturbances on Sunday. For example, the demonstration against corona measures, like the one in Amsterdam, was already forbidden in order to discourage people from coming. Since Monday he was busy "preparing for the known and unknown", said Jorritsma in the NOS Radio 1 Journaal.
Yet looting and destruction could not be prevented. Jorritsma: "I've pulled out all the stops here, but at some point you are overrun by society, with all the consequences that entails." This afternoon, the mayor and his colleagues will discuss "an attack plan" with his colleagues in the Security Council meeting.
Adriaan Wierenga, legal scientist at the University of Groningen and specialized in emergency law, says that municipalities can at least arm themselves by issuing emergency ordinance more often instead of emergency orders. "You give an emergency order if something suddenly comes up that you did not see coming. An emergency ordinance is a temporary act that you announce in advance. For example on the municipal website. So then people know: I am not allowed to come here," says Wierenga.
"You can enforce that immediately and it is less difficult from a legal point of view. In case of an emergency order, people are only punishable if they have first received the order and then do not follow it up. Then someone could always say: I have not heard the order. . "Owners of shops in the city of Nijmegen try to protect their shops by barricading it with wooden facades.

What additional resources are still on the table?Dutch undercover cops in combat with violent demonstrators on the Museum square in AmsterdamOutgoing Minister Grapperhaus (Security and Justice) underlined that rioters will be severely prosecuted and cannot face the regular fine of 95 euros for violating the corona rules. "Because I find it an aggravating circumstance when 99 percent of people follow the rules and then someone sabotages it with these kinds of actions," he said.
According to emergency law specialist Wierenga, the Public Prosecution Service and mayors still have the necessary options when it comes to higher sentences. "That 95 euros has been the guideline since the slipping of Minister Grapperhaus. But if you follow the Extraordinary Powers of Civil Authority Act, it is also possible for the Public Prosecution Service to demand a maximum of six months in prison and fines of up to 8700 euros for violations.
"Now, a higher sentence in itself will not often prevent a criminal offense. But if the chance of being caught is relatively high and the consequences are concrete, such as in the case of the riots, it could be a deterrent. It scares off more than 95 euros in any case. fine ", says Wierenga.

According to Gerrit van de Kamp of the ACP police union, the tracing of rioters is a challenge. "Many people have already been arrested and video images are also being watched, although that is not always easy, since many rioters wear hoodies and masks." According to Van de Kamp, the police have to deal with staff limitations. "There is no room to free up many people to keep an eye on internet forums and social media."
Struijs says that the understaffing mainly leads to problems elsewhere. "We can easily investigate vague descriptions, so even if someone wears a hood or mouth mask. But this is done at a high price. Other things such as collisions, stabbings and street robberies remain longer, and you will notice that more and more."Undercover cops in Eindhoven arrest violent anti-corona measures demonstrators in Eindhoven Sunday afternoonSource: nos.nl/artikel/2365953-hoe-nu-verder-na-heftigste-rellen-in-40-jaar.html
