Pieter, I saw the interview. I can understand Meghan since I am the outsider in this land.... she felt that she did not belong, she was not protected and she had to act according to rules. Harry showed a great support.
I was surprised how British media reacted to it. Piers Morgan who showed independent streak while in America, now saw the interview as full of lies because they dare to say something negative about Royal family being trapped in heir own bubble

Pieter Also do my self agree with Jaga with her reply, but also that Megan is an outsider as was Diana so many years past. The Royal family seems to be very sensative in that matter, whilst not only is Meghan an out sider, but to add injury to family pride, Megans mother is black whilst her father is white. heavy.com/news/2017/11/meghan-markle-race-ethnicity-black-harry/Karl

My version of Americanism comes through on this topic. I don't follow the 'royals' and am baffled as to why they are a constant fascination for Americans in our republic.
In my younger days I was a more radical republican and felt the greatest mistake the communists made was in not slaughtering more of the royals and nobles as they swept across central Europe and Germany, freeing the countries from fascism and feudalism with its royals etc.
Events since then have changed my perspective and watching Russia come out of the Soviet Union and re-establish an oligarch-noble system, and seeing an oligarch-noble system establish itself so deeply in America have shown that, seemingly, to be the natural state of government of human beings. Democracy, self-governance and republicanism seems to be quick and transient states.
It was fun while it lasted.
Oh, Meghan and her troubles: judging from the unavoidable headlines and hype, it sounds like she encountered a standard set of human prejudices and challenging circumstances in life. Ho-hum. I don't have time in my life to follow 9 billion stories of other people facing the standard challenges in life, I have my own challenges and enjoyments to experience!

Karl, I completely agree with your perspective. You also know how does it feel to be an outsider through your life.
Kai, I watched Piers Morgan to walk out after interesting conversation. Pierce was was dominating and so emotional. There were couple of arguments I might find a common ground with him, but he should not question everything Meghan said just because he believes in the sanctity of monarchy.
I can completely imagine being alone in the castle as a princess, when surrounded by people for whom the rituals and gossips are the most important in their lives.
