Karl,
yes, RT is a very well done Russian propaganda. Syria had good relationship with Russia for a long time already. I am glad that some information about this base is available.

Karl/Jaga,
For the sake of Audi alteram partem (audiatur et altera pars) it is important to watch RT also, to not become one sided. I watch RT often next to the BBC, CNN and Fox News and our own Dutch NOS news and RTL-Nieuws. If you only watch the Western news you get a one sided view of the world.
In the Middle East I follow I24, the Jerusalem Post, Haaretz, Al Jazeera English, Al Arabiya English and Press tv. Next to the European BBC world service, DW (Deutsche Welle), Euronews, France 24, der Spiegel Online English and CNN. Next to the Dutch radio, TV, newspapers and magazines of course. You are a news junkie or you are not a news junkie. I am a news junkie.
Cheers, Pieter

Jaga, Knowing your heritage and experience in the Communist Polish Peoples Republic in Kraków in Małopolska in Southern Poland and the Second World War experience with Sovjet Russia (the SovjetUnion) and the experience with Czarist Russia (the partititions and the Russification policies in occupied Eastern and Central Poland - Warsaw- which was part of the Russian Empire between 1795 and 1918) I understand your reaction as a Polish person Jaga. People who don’t know Poland’s history do not know that Central- and Eastern-Poland were part of Russia for 123 years. And that Western-Poland (the area around Poznań) was Prussian in the same time. The least opppressive but non the less occupation was the Austrian occupation of Southern Poland since the Third partition. The Austrian Partition (Polish: zabór austriacki) comprise the former territories of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth acquired by the Habsburg Monarchy during the Partitions of Poland in the late 18th century. The three partitions were conducted jointly by the Russian Empire, the Kingdom of Prussia and Habsburg Austria, resulting in the complete elimination of the Polish Crown. Austria acquired Polish lands during the First Partition of 1772, and Third Partition of Poland in 1795. In the end, the Austrian sector encompassed the second-largest share of the Commonwealth's population after Russia;[note 1] over 2.65 million people living on 128,900 km2 (49,800 sq mi) of land constituting formerly south-central part of the Republic. So your reply Jaga could be the reply of Polish uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces or Polish friends of mine in the past and present. The knowledge, awareness and alertness of the Polish corncerning Sovjet or Russian influence, Propaganda or threats, fake news, or cyber attacks goes deep. Poles are very aware about what goes on in Eastern Ukraine in the Donbas Region, in occupied Crimea, in Belarus today, and the threats Belarus, Georgia, Moldavia and Europe (the EU in general) are facing. There are constant Russian provocations by land, by sea and by air. It seems that the Cold War is back. I am not naive about that. Huge Russian Tupolev bombers flew over NATO Territory or allied Western nations. Finland, Sweden, Norway, the Baltic states, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. Just recently Belgian F16 planes from Wallonia flew to the Netherlands to escort huge Russian Tupolev bomber outside the Dutch Airspace in a coordinated NATO action. www.google.nl/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/russias-newest-subs-on-par-us-top-us-commanders-say-2021-6%3fampwww.justsecurity.org/42399/timeline-russian-provocations-dangerous-acts-january-20-2017/So, yes RT is a very well done Russian propaganda. Syria had good relationship with Russia for a long time already, because the SovjetUnion supported Arab states and regimes against Israel. Israel was for a long time supported by France and after France by the USA and West-Germany and probably the UK. Like you Kaga I am glad that some information about this base is available. I also think about Syrian civilians in Homs, Aleppo and other Syrian towns, cities and villages that were under the control of Syrian rebels (Free Syrian Army, Jabhat Fateh al-Sham or other ‘resistance groups’ ) who were bombed, killed or heavily wounded or who fled via the Mediterranean Sea, via rough terrain to Turkey or whom are stuck in Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina or Croatia. Also the Syrian refugees that drowned like African, Afghan or Iraqi refugees in the Mediterranean Sea or died in the mountains or elsewhere. I perfectly know why the Russians, Iranians and Hezbollah are in Syria for Geopolitical, tactical, strategic, political, religious and historical (ties) reasons. Cheers, Pieter
