Tjeenk Willink’s analysis in his final report on the first round of the coalition talks when he said: ‘The democratic legal order is based on trust and restraint. But it looks as if trust and restraint have been replaced with distrust and escalation’.

This is the way the political bodies of the world are operating today !
I fear that that is the case John. The Democratic system is corroding due to fragmentation, fractionalization and polarisation of both the Centre left and Centre right. The moderate democratic political parties with a Christian-Democratic, conservative-liberal, Social Democratic (Labor - Democratic Socialist) and Social Liberal nature. National Rightwing Populist, nationalist, Farmer Populist, Migrant Populist and Leftwing Populist and Islamist Political movements en political parties are gaining strength at the expense of the old traditional centrist European political parties (our Republican and Democratic Political parties). In the American context that would mean that American Marxists, American White Suprematists or American Arab Muslim Islamists would gain strength and power at the expense of the traditional Republican and Democratic parties. Of course the National Rightwing Populist movement gained strength in the Republican Party via Trumpism, The Christian Coalition and the Tea Party. In the Democratic Party you have the hard left far left socialist wing. Cheers, Pieter

These Centre right and centre left traditional political partias are struggling to survive. The traditional (centre left) Social Democratic Labour Party (PvdA) and the centre right Christian Democrats (CDA party) in the Netherlands are crumbling down. Their seize is reduced dramatically. The Centre right conservative liberal VVD party is still large, but could be dragged down in the next elections also, due to the decline of the popularity of the Dutch prime minister in the last couple of months after the National elections in March 2021. The centre left pragmatic, social liberal D66 party is doing well. But moving towards the muncipality elections in March 2022 a lot can change. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_election )

On the National Populist right side we have 3 political parties in the Dutch parliament. Geert Wilders PVV (Freedom Party), Thierry Baudet's Forum for Democracy (Forum voor Democratie) and JA21 of Joost Eerdmans and Annabel Nanninga. On the left to far left we have the leftwing Socialist party, de Socialistische Partij (SP) of Lilian Marijnissen, the migrant populist Denk (Think) party of (the Moroccan Dutch politician) Farid Azarkan and (the Turkish Dutch politician) Tunahan Kuzu, and the Bij1 ( Bee - One; Together) party of Sylvana Simons. Together with the radical and populist farmers party BBB (Farmer Citizens Movement) these parties are the Populist voice, power and influence in the Netherlands.
