Thousands of people said goodbye to Peter R. De Vries in the Carré theater in Amsterdam. The crime reporter has played a key role in various Limburg cases, including the disappearance of Tanja Groen and the death of Nicky Verstappen.
Next to the coffin of Peter R. De Vries, there is a prominent place for Nicky Verstappen's Ajax (soccer team) shirt. That was actually intended for Nicky's grave, but it arrived too late. Since then it has hung in the office of Peter R. De Vries for 20 years, as motivation to solve the case.
On the morning of 10 August 1998, 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen disappeared from a summer camp he was attending in Brunssum, Limburg. His body was found on the evening of 11 August, 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) away in Landgraaf, and a murder investigation was subsequently launched. Despite extensive investigation, the case remained unsolved for over twenty years. The 11-year-old murdered Nicky Verstappen. Peter R de Vries was supporting Nicky's family

Pieter
It is quite evident of the great respect people have for Mr. de Vries by virtue of such a large turn out for him. It is most apparent Mr. de Vries was a favourite son of the Netherlands and loved by the people paying him such respect..

Pieter, lets hope that his death would contribute to something good. It is a pity, even American mass media discussed his awful fate.
