Probably you are not familiar with the strange situation in Poland, but Belarussian regime is so upset with EU that the are trying to punish EU countries by transporting immigrants from Iraq and Afghanistan into Polish and Latvian territory. This is a dilemma, since it is a humanitarian crisis but also the crisis inspired by Lukashenko to the neighboring countries to diverge the attention from Belarus to EU countries and the human rights. Jaga
For the leadership of the state of Belarus, it is surprising such a person with such responsibilities as head of state, to be so irresponsible as to commit these acts as described. How ever Poland wishes to handle this situation would be well justified.

Karl,
yes. It is hard to what extend Lukashenko is manipulating the situation. At least EU is watching him now and they are aware of his actions.

Jaga,
I am not Trump or Netanyahu, nor Geert Wilders, but in this case I think that the Belarussian-Polish border needs a fence or wall like in Hungary.Belarus plays a risky, dangerous and evil game. It abuses the vulnerability of refugees, it causes problems for Poland and the EU.
Belarus should fix it’s own internal problems, respect human rights and the Freedom of Belarussians and should not act as a political pseudo Sovjet KGB police state.
Belarus creates problems and should find human and social solutions for these refugees whom they deliberately imported themselves. Refugees should be settled in their own region with the help of the international community.
We have enough migrants and refugees already and first should integrate and assimilate them. You can’t have an endless influx of refugees without boundaries. How much refugees can each nation adopt. There has to be a limit.
Cheers, Pieter

AP Explainer apnews.com/article/europe-middle-east-poland-immigration-migration-453ec6e5c1cdf36237bf2ccd98427dc1EXPLAINER: Why Poland declared state of emergency at border By VANESSA GERAapnews.com/article/europe-middle-east-poland-immigration-migration-453ec6e5c1cdf36237bf2ccd98427dc1/gallery/d6ef0a77623545bab295448ccc26771cPolish security forces surround migrants stuck along with border with Belarus in Usnarz Gorny, Poland, on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021. Poland has been reinforcing its border with Belarus – also part of the EU's eastern border – after thousands of migrants from Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere tried to illegally enter the country. The Polish government says it is the target of a "hybrid war" waged by authoritarian Belarus. Human rights activists are concerned about a group caught along the border, trapped between armed guards on each side. (AP Photo/Czarek Sokolowski)WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Polish President Andrzej Duda declared a state of emergency in areas along the border with Belarus Thursday, following a surge in illegal migration. Poland is now the third European Union member to impose a state of emergency in areas bordering Belarus — after Lithuania and Latvia did so earlier this summer arguing that they face a “hybrid war” attack. The state of emergency lasts 30 days and will also allow Polish authorities to limit the movements of journalists, activists and other civilians in a 3-kilometer (nearly 2-mile) wide zone along the border. ADVERTISEMENT Polish authorities say it will ensure greater security for Poland and the rest of the EU, also citing Russian military exercises planned in September which will include maneuvers in Belarus. Here is a look at the standoff on the EU’s eastern border, in which would-be asylum seekers have been caught up — including a group of Afghans now trapped between Polish and Belarusian border guards. HOW IT STARTED Months ago, neighboring countries charge, Belarus’ authoritarian regime began to encourage people from Iraq and elsewhere hoping to reach Europe to come to Belarus. Then, Belarusian forces allegedly shepherded them to its borders with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland. European leaders believe the migrants, who also come from Afghanistan, Syria and Africa, are being used to destabilize the EU in revenge for sanctions the bloc has imposed on President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime, which is backed by the Kremlin. Those sanctions were in reaction to a disputed election last year that gave Lukashenko a sixth term, and the ensuing harsh repression of domestic opponents. More sanctions were imposed after Minsk forced the landing of a Ryanair plane in May and arrested a dissident journalist on board. Referring to Belarus’ actions at the border, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin last month that she strongly condemned “using people, refugees or people from other countries who are in distress, as a hybrid weapon.” EUROPE AND MIGRATION Europe is still trying to absorb large numbers of migrants who arrived in recent years, with more than 1 million immigrating in 2015 alone. Whether to welcome or rebuff people fleeing war and poverty is a question that has deepened political divides within European nations and among the 27 EU member states, and boosted anti-immigrant political forces. ADVERTISEMENT The border standoff comes as the Taliban have taken over Afghanistan, creating worries about another wave of migrants and asylum seekers. European countries have evacuated some Afghans who have worked with their NATO or other missions in Afghanistan and are offering protection to those who have helped their countries. But the bloc also wants to avoid large numbers of people arriving illegally. THE RESPONSE Poland, Lithuania and Latvia have been fortifying their borders with Belarus, and have managed recently to stop thousands of people trying to enter. Hundreds have also been detained and put in closed centers. Some have applied for asylum but it is unlikely that many will receive it after entering the EU in an illegal manner. There have been reports that some people have made their way undetected to Germany or elsewhere in Western Europe — the typical destination for refugees in Europe. Lithuania said last week it had sent home 14 Iraqis who crossed from Belarus and many more “would follow them” soon. WHAT BELARUS SAYS Belarus’ top diplomat on Thursday rejected accusations that the ex-Soviet nation has used refugees against the EU. “They’re saying in the West nowadays that Belarus unleashed a hybrid war on the European Union. It’s ridiculous to hear. Belarus, of 10 million (population), unleashed a hybrid war on the 500-million European Union,” Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei told reporters on Thursday. Makei said Belarus has been offering to hold consultations with the EU on the issue of illegal migration, “but the European Union is categorically refusing to.” STRANDED GROUP While the new border barriers have stemmed crossings, one group of migrants has been stuck in a no-man’s land between armed Belarusian and Polish forces, sleeping in tents for more than three weeks. Reporters are not able to approach and question them directly, and information provided by the government and nongovernmental organizations has been difficult to verify. Poland’s border guards on Thursday said there are about 24-30 people there and that Belarusian guards regularly bring them warm meals, drinks, firewood, cigarettes and sweets. The U.N. refugee agency said there are 32 men, women and children from Afghanistan there. The UNHCR said in an email to The Associated Press on Thursday that it sent a team, along with the Belarusian Red Cross, to deliver food, water, blankets and other aid on Wednesday, its second visit in one week. INTERNAL DISSENT Polish media have broadcast images of razor wire being rolled out at the border, and soldiers and border guards standing just feet from migrants without giving them aid. That has drawn condemnation from many. Prominent former anti-communist dissident Wladyslaw Frasyniuk said he believed soldiers behaved like “a pack of dogs that surrounded poor, weak people.” Polish government officials have lashed back, accusing critics of siding with Belarus. Some government supporters have used the term “useful idiots” to refer to protesters — among them 13 activists who tried to cut the razor wire border barrier last weekend and now face prosecution. The government argues the state of emergency is needed to protect Poland’s security in the face of a Russian military exercise in Belarus this month, and to limit political actions along the border. ___ Yuras Karmanau in Kyiv, Ukraine, contributed.

Nobody knows why Lykashenko is disrupting Europr in such way. Poland declares state of emergency on Belarus border following surge in illegal migration Jaga,
Poland and the Baltic states simply shouldn't accept this. In this case Frontex plays an important role. Frontex stands for the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, an agency of the European Union headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, tasked with border control of the European Schengen Area, in coordination with the border and coast guards of Schengen Area member states. Frontex was established in 2004 as the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders and is primarily responsible for coordinating border control efforts. In response to the European migrant crisis of 2015–2016, the European Commission proposed on 15 December 2015 to extend Frontex's mandate and to transform it into a fully-fledged European Border and Coast Guard Agency. To enable the agency to carry out its tasks, its budget has gradually increased from the €143 million for 2015 to €543 million planned for 2021 and the staff of the agency is planned to reach 10 000 by 2027.Frontex main tasks according to the Council Regulation are:
- coordinate cooperation between member states in external border management. - assisting member states in training of national border guards. - carrying out risk analyses. - following research relevant for the control and surveillance of external borders. - helping member states requiring technical and operational assistance at external borders. - providing member states with the necessary support in organising joint return operations.Belarussian policy of human trafficking to the European UnionIn May 2021, Lukashenko threatened that he will flood the European Union with migrants and drugs as a response to the sanctions. In July 2021, Belarusian authorities launched a hybrid warfare by human trafficking of migrants to the European Union. Lithuanian authorities and top European officials Ursula von der Leyen, Josep Borrell condemned the usage of migrants as a weapon and suggested that Belarus could be subject to further sanctions. In August 2021, Belarusian officials, wearing uniforms, riot shields and helmets, were recorded on camera near the Belarus–Lithuania border pushing and urging the migrants to cross the European Union border. Following the granting of humanitarian visas to an Olympic athlete Krystsina Tsimanouskaya and her husband, Poland also accused Belarus for organizing a hybrid warfare as the number of migrants crossing the Belarus–Poland border sharply increased multiple times when compared to the 2020 statistics. Illegal migrants numbers also exceeded the previous annual numbers in Latvia.Repatriation of illegal immigrantsThe Border and Coast Guard has a supportive capacity to repatriate immigrants residing illegally in the union and is responsible for the coordination of return operations. The decision about who should be returned is always taken by the judicial or administrative authorities of the Member States. The merits of return decisions remain the exclusive responsibility of the Member State, with the appeal against this return decision having to be taken through the respective Member State. The present tense situationPoland and the Baltic states need international support. In this case Poland should be backed by NATO and EU partners, despite political differences. Western Alliances are built on mutual interests, shared responsibility, loyalty, treaties, the aim of international stability, military, financial, economical, monetary, geopolitical, social-cultural, legal (Rechtstaat promotion, maintainance and protection, law & order aims, protection of the Western values of the Separation of Powers -Trias Politica-), parliamentarism (parliamentary democracies, Freedom & Democracy), Human rights (protection), Laissez Faire Free Market economies and markets (and Trade laws that protect property and intellectual property, Financial-, economical- and monetary regulations) and our Freedom of speech, Freedom of opinion, Freedom of gathering, Freedom of thought, Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Faith, Freedom of political choice (democratic choices), Academical Freedom and social security, health care, housing and infrasturctures for all (the European system of highways, railways, rivers, chanals, airports and Internet). Poland is part of the Democratic Western world.
These Freedoms today are under threat from various sides and various actors. Belarus, the Russian Federation, Russian allies in the Caucasus, China, North Korea, Pakistan, various foreign Intelligence agencies and hacker groups, Cyber warfare and Cyber crime and Cyber terrorism.
Belarus and Russia play a provocative game here Jaga. But don't forget that Poland is part of NATO, the EU and the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), the Visegrád Group, the Weimar Triangle (Poland, Germany and France), the Lublin Triangle (military, cultural, and economic cooperation between Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine), the Schengen Agreement (the Schengen Area), the Bucharest Nine (Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia and Latvia), the United Nations, World Trade Organization (WTO), yhe Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the G5 (EU), an unofficial group of the interior ministers of the six European Union member states—France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain —with the largest populations and thus with the majority of votes in the Council of the European Union.
The Russians or Belarussians will think twice before invading Poland, because they know Poland will have NATO backing in the case of war. And if they are foolish enough to attack Poland, they will find a combined multi national force of Polish, Baltic, Hungarian, American, Canadian, British, German, Dutch, Danish, Belgian, French, Spanish, Portugese, Italian, Norwegian, Romanian, Albanian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Greek and Turkish NATO armies on the Polish side. Russians and Belarussians won't invade Poland because they know that the Polish Patriotic, Nationalist and military combination would be difficult and nasty for them. Poles would never accept a Belarussian/Russian occupation. Of course the Russians are constantly provocating NATO and EU countries with their planes, submarines and navy vessels flying over or sailing over NATO and EU member states skies and sovereign waters.
This large Belarussian/Russian military excercise is again a provocation and a test of the Polish and Balitic nerves and the NATO power in Central- and Eastern-Europe. The EU and NATO should stand firm behind Poland and the Baltic states.
Cheers, Pieter

Humanity is segregated by ethnic, cultural, peoples, tribal, political, financial, economical, religious and social borders and a combination of these things. These images remind me of Hungary in 2015/2016. Maybe the Poles follow the Hungarian example. This might be necessary, but it is sad.
