Cases are growing especially in the countries that does not mandate vaccinations. Cases of people dying per day reached 250 in Poland and it is getting worse especially in the least vaccinated Eastern Poland. www.axios.com/who-europe-pandemic-epicenter-again-149fbadd-b666-407f-958a-5edf3e06e26f.htmlWHO: Europe is again at epicenter of pandemicEurope is "back at the epicenter of the pandemic" and approaching record COVID-19 case numbers as the Delta variant spreads and vaccination efforts stall in several regions, a top World Health Organization official warned Thursday. The big picture: Germany reported Thursday its highest number of new coronavirus infections in one day since the pandemic began (33,949). New cases across Europe have risen 55% in the past four weeks, per WHO European director Hans Kluge. "We are at another critical point of pandemic resurgence," he warned. There had been 1.8 million new infections and some 24,000 deaths in the European region in the past week alone, Kluge said. "If we stay on this trajectory, we could see another half a million COVID-19 deaths in Europe and Central Asia by the first of February next year — and 43 countries in our region will face high to extreme stress on hospital beds at some point through the same period," he added. Of note: "While eight countries have now exceeded 70% coverage, in two countries the rate remains below 10%," Kluge said. "Where vaccine uptake is low — in many countries in the Baltics, central and eastern Europe, and the Balkans — hospital admission rates are high." He noted that along with rapid, widespread vaccination, "testing, contact tracing, ventilation in indoor spaces and physical distancing remain part of our arsenal of defenses." The bottom line: "We must change our tactics, from reacting to surges of Covid-19 to preventing them from happening in the first place," Kluge said.

Jaga
Your information of this terrible disease that is hitting so hard in these areas of Eastern is terrible news. For people no matter the location needs be protected from such things that are preventable such as this Covid situation.
What is left out from the indicated news source, is the manner of distribution. That is, if the medicine being available and how it is distributed. For in the populated areas such as cities, it is more available to people being they are close at hand to the source of medicine. Whilst though, there is a question of distribution in rural areas.
For reasons of easy travel and density of our related populations, natures manner of Germ warfare is very successful by the results we see at present..

Karl, this situation with covid brings so many challenges. I just hope that the pill will be available soon and distributed among these who need it and maybe some of people who do not want to be vaccinated would take it

I just learned that my oldest brother and his wife had covid but they are recovering. My best friend also - she told me that today! All of them were vaccinated but they blame it on the low rate of vaccinations in Poland. People don't trust the government and they also believe conspiracy theories.

Although never to have met your older brother and his wife, I am although, very happy they have recovered well. In the matter of conspiracy theories, it always amazes me of so many believing in such questionable information lacking in viable proof of truth.

It seems the attitude in my area is that we are in a post-Covid world now. People have been quite comfortable without masks for a month or two or longer, even in areas with officially high case loads. It seems 80% of the people do not wear masks most of the time, and in a now-former group that gathers for coffee, people are comfortable sharing a table for coffee and when they cough, covering their mouths only with a closed fist. That I can only see as a great means to spread spittle and virus sideways, or at least block only the center of the projectiles.
The local governor is hostile toward precautions, and the local mayor(s) as well. Even through times when hospitals are overloaded and put restricted practices in force, the local mayor refuses to follow the advice of the hospitals or his own professional health staff, and will oppose mask mandates or other measures no matter what. He prides himself on being a retired commercial pilot, but as a pilot he is lucky. One common statement about dead pilots is "he refused to believe his instruments and flew into the side of the mountain". That reminds me very much of this mayor. To the devil with the science, I know better - no matter what!
So it will be interesting to see how this continues to develop world wide. Oh. No. We don't look beyond our borders to see that others are having difficulties as well. We have to believe that the virus is following the rules our political parties have propagated.
Well, I am pretty relaxed myself, but do believe in distancing and wearing masks in public and in crowded places, but feel quite comfortable with many friends and in spacious restaurants. And yes, I find it particularly offensive when people cough uncovered. This latter habit seems to be quite common in older folk, perhaps from long habit and unawareness, perhaps simply from never having cared or never having re-evaluated their personal santiation.

Kai, the same is in Poland. We are leading in the deaths, although the infection rate is not worse than in other countries but the populistic government does not want to hear about any restrictions. We had about 500 deaths per day, so over 2000 per week, still, nothing is being done

I have to admit, I don't wear the mask where I don't need to, unless it is crowded or I am at work, still I cannot understand why people don't vaccinate. Poland has the highest number of Covid deaths in Europe, today 570, since the government was doing everything to avoid any restrictions... because it is supported by some people who are against it. If this number would remain at this level there would be 200 th people who died of Covid per year which is close to a promile of Polish population. 9 of 10 people who are in the hospital were unvaccinated, 94/100 dead are among unvaccinated.

Jaga, That is quite natural, because breathing without mask is healthier. I wear the masque in crowded places, the hospital, office buildings, the supermarket, in my fathers nursing home and in shops and when I enter a bar or restaurant. As soon as the distance is enough I remove the Face mask. It is important that when you are alone outside and in your home or garden that you breathe fresh air. People who wear the mask whole day have a health risk in my opinion due to Carbon dioxide (chemical formula CO2). Some people can’t wear the mask due to health issues abd special diseases. Cheers, Pieter
