"Fires have been set in several places. Fireworks were set off and police fired several warning shots. The riot police is presently present to restore order," they added.

Dutch media said several hundred protesters shouted slogans including “freedom”, then threw stones at police and firefighters and set fire to several electric scooters. Police used water cannons to try to disperse the crowd.
The situation had largely calmed later on Friday night, but there was a heavy police presence.

Extreme violence in RotterdamPolice pulled fire arms and shot at the extremely violent mob.You hear the fire arms of the Rotterdam police officers who fire at the mob of aggressive and violent anti-Covid measure rioters and vandalists. Since 2013 the Dutch police is armed with the P99Q, as a replacement for the Walther P5 (45,000 pistols). So the shots you hear were fired with Walther P99Q pistolsThe Walther P99Q pistol of the Dutch policePolice helicopters were monitoring the violent mob on the street from the airRiot police platoons from all over the Netherlands were transported to Rotterdam to assist their Rotterdam colleagues of the Rotterdam ME Riot police. (ME means Mobiele eenheid, which means Mobile Unit in Eglish, it is the name for the Dutch Riot police)

Riot control measures are used by law enforcement, military, or security forces to control, disperse, and arrest people who are involved in a riot, demonstration, or protest.

If a riot is spontaneous and irrational, actions which cause people to stop and think for a moment (e.g. loud noises or issuing instructions in a calm tone) can be enough to stop it. However, these methods usually fail when there is severe anger with a legitimate cause, or the riot was planned or organized. Riot control personnel have long used less lethal weapons such as batons and whips to disperse crowds and detain rioters. Since the 1980s, riot control officers have also used tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, and electric tasers. In some cases, riot squads may also use Long Range Acoustic Devices, water cannons, armoured fighting vehicles, aerial surveillance, police dogs or mounted police on horses. Persons performing riot control typically wear protective equipment such as riot helmets, face visors, body armor (vests, neck protectors, knee pads, etc.), gas masks and riot shields. It reminded many people of the heavy and violent riots in Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Amsterdam one year ago.
The problem is that there are strong anti-covid measure groups, Populists, anti-vaccination propaganda lobbyists, conspiracy theory believers, QAnon people (Dutch branch), people of anti-covid measure media, some migrants that join the native European Dutch crowds, workers, middle class people, some frustrated unemployed people, some people of the Yellow Vest Movement, some Neo-Nazi’s, people of the National Rightwing Populist Forum for Democracy party, angry civilians and hooligans behind these aggressive and violent protests since 2020. Since 2 years these aggressive demonstrators and the Dutch riot police have confrontations now.

An example of the Anti-Corona virus measure media is the magazine Gezond Verstand (Common Sense).Common Sense (Newspaper)Gezond Verstand (Common Sense) is a Dutch magazine, published by the Healthy Sense Foundation. The magazine is devoted to alternative explanations and alleged conspiracies. The editorial of the magazine itself claims to provide articles that inform the reader objectively and truthfully. Café Weltschmerz says about the magazine that attention is paid to topics that are underexposed or distorted in the "mainstream media". The first edition of the magazine appeared at the end of September 2020 in a circulation of 1 million, which was partly distributed door-to-door.Head editor of this new magazine is Karel van Wolferen (on the left side in the photo), old foreign correspondent of the Dutch quality newspaper NRC Handelsblad and Emeritus of the University of Amsterdam

Another anti-corona measures and anti-vaccine and Corona Mask magazine is de Andere Krant, the Other Newspaper. The Other Newspaper (De Andere krant)De Andere Krant (the other newspaper) is a Dutch newspaper that appears both online and in print. The newspaper was founded in 2018 at the initiative of the pro-Russian peace activist Madeleine Klinkhamer. It is published by the KnowledgeMatters Foundation and is available in the Netherlands and Flanders. The editor-in-chief is Sander Compagner, who is also chairman of the board of the foundation (the foundation was founded in 2014). Campagner is chairman of the Dutch Association of Free Journalists (NVVJ).

The newspaper has subscribers, but is mainly distributed free of charge. The newspaper is published in-house every two months and in varying print runs, ranging from 50,000 to 1.1 million in the summer of 2020 (500,000 copies in May 2020). This makes him one of the larger print media in the Netherlands.De Andere Krant claims to offer a different view of reality and states itself as its goal: "To broaden the public debate and show the Other Side of the news. Where many media seem more part of the power system in instead of critically following this power we are totally independent".
The newspaper was scrutinized by the Land Information Maneuver Center (LIMC) unit. Without this service of the Dutch armed forces being authorized to do so, it collected and analyzed data to predict where a corona wave or social unrest could arise. The unit was set up due to the corona crisis to gain insight into the spread of disinformation. Among other things, the distribution points of De Andere Krant were collected. The unauthorized generation and analysis of the data by the LIMC led to a request for a parliamentary debate by MP Salima Belhaj (D66).ReflectionsIn a review, the BNN-VARA broadcast corporation program Alicante refuted some facts about corona posited by the newspaper, but on the basis of sources that the newspaper editors consider not reliable.
The NRC Handelsblad assumed a connection with Russia in several publications, which was contradicted by the editors of De Andere Krant. According to NRC, the crowdfunding model makes it impossible to check how De Andere Krant is financed. The NRC also revealed that an activist known for making anti-Semitic statements guaranteed the financing of the first issue. A complaint about this to the Council for Journalism in 2018 was not honored. In its first edition, De Andere Krant praised President Vladimir Putin and presented a pro-Russian portrayal of the annexation of Crimea, the war in eastern Ukraine and Russian support for Syrian President Assad. According to NRC sources, Russian government officials are involved in the special MH17 edition of De Andere Krant.
The national public broadcaster NOS classifies De Andere Krant as conspiracy theories. In her discussion, researcher at Leiden University Ben de Jong is mentioned, who speaks of disinformation.

Hello Pieter, thanks for the presentation. Even the main google news have info about these riots. From your pictures and information it looks really violent. I see lots of young angry men running and putting things on fire. It is not any better than what happened last year in the US )these black lifes matter) protests that caused a lot of devastation although their cause could be understandable the methods were wrong.

Such violence as depicted by your videos in presentation of currant protest. By virtue of the destruction as depicted comes the question as for the legitimate reasons for such protest of them for an opportunity to commit destruction of property and have a fun time fighting with the police.
Perhaps though, the clock is ticking to the point of public opinion to form against these rioters as enough is enough for them to begin taking personal action. It is to the time of possible events that is not wished for, for then the police will then have a double edged situation to deal with as of the present. This, not to mention of the problem of the courts to determine as who is the enemy and who is the victim..

Karl,
The patience of the majority who does not support these violent Youths(street thugs and gangs), (Fijenoord) Hooligans, Right-wing radicals, Conspiracy theorists and aggressive Anti-lockdown/ anti Covid test and anti- vaccination and 1,5 meter distance measure protesters indeed annoy the ‘normal citizens’.
Their city Rotterdam is vandalized and bad in the news, public property is damaged and hard working middle class people saw their shops smashed and chairs, tables, windows and interiors of cafeteria, restaurants and bars smashed to pieces and thus destroyed. These people have tens of thousands of Euro’s damage to their enterprises. Next to that scooters and police cars with equipment were burned.
Rotterdam had to ask assistance from other muncipalities all over the country. In the beginning of the evening the violent mob was larger than the police force and the police had to retreat. Some police officers running for their lives. Some of them were encircled by the aggressive violent mob. They had to use their guns. First aiming at the air with warning shots, when the extremely violent mob came to close and pelted then with stones, bottles, iron rods, bricks, pavers, metal fences and other materials and heavy kicking and beating with legs and arms the police officers were forced to shoot people in their legs to neutralize them and stop them.
There is little empathy, tolerance and fondness for these rioters amongst the Dutch people. A minority has an agressive, militant and violent aim in these violent protests. They are there for the violence and are prepared for this violence. Both citizens and police observed them before they attacked. Many wore black Balaclava‘s, black clothes and acted in an organised group manner like Soccer Hooligans and far right groups do.
You are right Karl that people might take things into their own hands if their shops, stores, businesses, scooters, motor bikes or cars and in the case of the city center, their apartments, favorite bars, cafeteria’s and restaurants are attacked.
These violent thugs are organised. They acted in various cities. Commited the same violence in The Hague, Haarlem, Amsterdam and Eindhoven. There is a name for these radicals/extremists. I forgot that name. They are an annoying bunch of Vandals and lunatics in the eyes of the Dutch public opinion. So you could be right Karl..
Cheers, Pieter
