Some thing new in the manner by Rheinmetall of this, a Armored fighting Vehicle for both home use and foreign sales. Please be mindful this is not an advertisement of Rheinmetall, but for information only.
There are many arguments as to the survivability of a wheeled fighting vehicle in combat use against the use of a tracked vehicle. It needs be mindful that both have their advantages and disadvantages, for each is a weapon of choice to the respective commander to fit the needs as the situation evolves.

Hallo Karl, thanks for your presentation. Because of this war I learn more about advances in military equipment than during the last 30 years. Jaga It is most unfortunate to have such times as present for developing such machines as above, for what the cost amounts to, this could in that stead, be applied to up grade the living standard of people. With this, to apply as well to such situations that people of little resources to make their lives better. But, here we are. There is only so much resources {money} in the national piggy bank and each need must be met, it then amounts to which need most meets the national interest. Karl

Jaga
That is indeed so a very excellent accounting of weapons available with the specifications includant. Even though the vast majority of people are not military, it is good to know and understand such these weapons and how they operate. For then to more understand the news that is released of damage and destruction of effected areas.
Thank you for your meaningful reply.

It now is the Americans with their contribution to the war effort brokered with Poland with upgraded T-72 tanks to Ukrainian armed forces in exchange for American M1 tanks to Poland. An equable trade with out active participation in the war.

Karl, not that many years ago during presidential debate of Obama and Romney - the validity of storing and building Abram tanks was question. Now it looks that they are finally set for use in Ukraine conflict.

On the surface, it seems an unnecessary expense to maintain such machines for a reason that at the time has no reason. But, as you have pointed out, when the reason arises in spite of short term thinking, the machines as needed, are available. The Abrams is a very old machine that has been updated over time for the reason it was very well designed to start with, a great deal of credit should be to the original design people. It is all most a shame to put them to risk in combat, but they are after all, weapons designed for such use.. Karl

Karl, thanks for clarification that Abrams are old model. It does feel that tanks should belong rather to XX Century war than XXI century war. Finally Germany went ahead and shared some of their weaponry with Kiev. I am surprised why it took so long. Do you know? Was it just politics or trying to save face with Russia? www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/04/26/germany-heavy-weapons-ukraine/BERLIN — First, Germany said it couldn’t spare any of its Marder infantry vehicles for Ukraine. Then it was accused of scrubbing such items from a German arms industry list of what was available for Kyiv. Berlin has since proposed sending some Marders after all but to Slovenia, so that country can in turn send its old Soviet-era tanks to Ukraine. Now Germany says it is aiming to send antiaircraft tanks to the embattled country.

Jaga Your question is a very valid one of the lateness and reluctances of Germany providing weapons to Ukraine in as far as other nations have done. Yes, in the first, it was with the clear but plain constitutional requirements of not sending weapons to a state at war. This was in the first an issue, but one that was cleared as an legal issue. The other was as you have suggested, a political issue that is common in German politics to get every one on board before a common agreement is found. What this amounts to, is for an issue is in common agreement, it would appear to only occur when all involved has worn them selves to death with out a future breath to draw, then the common agreement is approved. The other issue which is a valid one, is the time it takes for an energy switch over for Industry. For Industry must never be delayed for that is the life blood for Germany with the manner of export.
