Piwo, Thanks for sharing your story. Amazing that you were able to find living relatives, and all the helpful info they gave you!
You and Nancy have both been fortunate in that aspect. I'm not sure if I'm going to be that lucky in my genealogical research - many ancestors died childless or had no siblings or the only siblings/children of siblings emigrated. My family today is small, and historically, on both sides, it was small, too.

OK, I will just have to wait for the sequel.

Piwo I have just read your three articles - an extremely interesting account, well-presented and written and a lesson to us all in the value of keeping on and on, when you are trying to find your roots. Well done! Leslie

The wedding was initially conceptualized for summer 2007 (it would have been impossible to get it done in just a few months here for this coming summer). However, my daughter has been on a waiting list for dental Hygiene school, and just learned that she got in a year ahead of time. You have to complete the science prerequisites before you go on the list, so she has done this, and has been in a holding pattern for a year now. This is good and bad as it means that she will be completing her studies a year ahead of schedule, but bad because she will now be attending school all summer of 2007. The only solution was to move it out to 2008. It seems like a long time, but it gives them a little time to get the classes done with the church, finish studies (and this I was big on), and more time to save money for their trip. Thanks Leslie, and all for you comments. Nancy's a great editor, and helped my when I started to ramble. Her ingenuity of tuning my words into a link to outside was really a nice touch. She has the editors eye, for certain! There was much more that could have been discussed, but those presented were the hi-lights, and why ruin a good story with all the "low lights". ;D I was going to put in an example of the church documents I found, here's one of my great, great Aunt Anna, who is getting married on Feb 16/19 1879 to Jan Kaminik, who is on leave from the Army. Anna is 22 and from Mikołajówek, he is 32 and from Pruska Wielka. It also lists the parents of each, where they live, and if they are alive at the time of the wedding, whitenesses and where they are from. All this is invaluable. Sometimes you will find a whiteness which you know is a relation, at a wedding that you are looking to see if there is a connection. Now you have at least a smoking gun for further digging! If I only didn't have to work for money, I'd have time to do all this!!!! ;D For those of you looking for family in the former Russian occupied terretories of Poland, here's what to expect:

thanks, Piwo! Editing is a medium-sized part of my "paying job," but it is Jaga who taught me about links within articles! ouch. Good thing that nice lady at the SLC library rescued you... In a few months, when you re-read your articles, you can suggest modifications. I revised mine - to add more pictures - after reading yours

Yup, Enjoyable article. Glad you had such luck. I do history rather than family research but may get into it someday. So far the next generation shows very little interest. There is fun in sparking interest in the European family in a broader part of the world, and perhaps I have done a bit of the same in America.

John,
this is a wonderful story and wonderful pictures. So, you found your family in Poland and in the US. The photographs are lovely too - starting with your ancestors and finishing with the Harazim house in Poland. Thank you so much for posting!

Thanks once again for the kind words and support. The research is of course, not complete. Really only started. I have some leads to follow from my past research, and my ability to read some Polish now will help when I look at the pre-1868 films microfilms, where I will now concentrate.
My cousin in Michigan, Mike Criswell and I are talking about meeting for the first time this summer. I managed to meet the family in Poland before I met him, CRAZY. I hope that I'll be able to go further back, and expand on the tree both in width and depth. If really is a shame we must occupy ourselves with making a living, otherwise we'd all be further along in our pursuits of finding family.
