Hello Guys, finally I got down to copying the photos from my son's First Communion. It was on Mothers' Day - almost two weeks from now. Our son is 8 now, but goes to the second grade of primary school, so his a year younger than his friends. The preparation took almost a year, both at school and at special meetings in church. Generally you should prepare for the event in your local parish but we were going to a nearby parish, where his school is situated and where I grew up and where the vicar is children and human-friendly (what is not always the case). This is the picture of us in front of the church after the ceremony: img62.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pomszyrodzinarazjeszczect7.jpgMy son is holding a small loaf of bread that the children got from church to share with their guests - it is not typically Polish tradition but still I liked the idea. Then it is Piotrek at the table - children get either a small medal with Virgin Mary or Cross as a traditional gift along with their own copies of the New Testament. img170.imageshack.us/my.php?image=piotrekprzystolelt9.jpgAnd a glimpse of our house, the table and me - I have no idea what I was doing at the moment. img170.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jakiposiekej7.jpgAfter the eventful Sunday there was so called "White Week" when the children go to church every day dressed in the robes (alby). At the end of the week they even planted a new tree, under which a sealed bottle with all the names was buried.

Zooba, These are wonderful pictures and a great description! Thank you for sharing with us. I have one question - How in the world did you keep the robe clean and white for an entire week?

As with Chris, thank you for sharing the photos with us. I thought the one of Piotrek on his own, looking straight at the camera showed what a good-looking boy he is (but I bet he can be a devil also!!). I can imagine it was a day for you to remember and the photos will help this as the years roll by - I know only too well!!

Zooba,
wonderful pictures. Is on the first picture your daugher also - next to Piotrek? And your husband next to you? It seems that you son inherited some nice disorderly hair from your husband.
You are a very pretty lady in all of these pictures. Is this lady just behind the kids your mother or your mother in law?
Thanks so much for posting the pictures. My daughter's communion is the next year, we will see how it will all go.
Please, do not live us alone in the forum!

Zooba, Thank you for sharing your fotos. Your son is a handsome boy. I love those beautiful blue eyes. Is that your husband in the first foto. He reminds me a bit of Christopher Walken, the actor.

Also may I thank you for sharing, those are lovely photos of your family. The group photo infront of the Church was very endearing, every one is dressed so nice, and a happy and caring group of Friends you have.

Holly, of course I had to wash it twice boys are boys... This is my Mum behind the children and yes my husband is standing next to me - funny thing, now I can see some resemblance with Ch. Walken. My son is a genetic copy of my husband, my daughter takes after me or more accurately after my mother. The people are dressed up, yes, the Polish do it, can be very elegant and see it as a way of showing respect to the family.

Those are wonderful pictures, Zooba, thank you for sharing them! What a lovely event, and what a handsome son you have! I like the custom you described of planting a tree with a bottle with the children's names. The tree will grow up with the children and be a nice living reminder.

Zooba,
I agree with Jaga totally, you are a very pretty lady, and elegant and nice dressed too. Your son is a wonderful boy and the house has a very fine, relaxed atmosphere. When I see the people around you, you must have a nice family too.
