updated 8:19 a.m. ET, Wed., Nov. 28, 2007 SOFIA, Bulgaria - A pack of stray dogs mauled a British woman to death in a Bulgarian village, police said on Wednesday.
Margaret Ann Gordon, 56, was walking her pet dog when the pack of about eight wild dogs attacked her on Tuesday afternoon on the outskirts of the tiny village of Nedyalsko in southeastern Bulgaria, a police spokeswoman said.
Gordon, who lived in Nedyalsko with her partner for the past two years, died from blood loss before an ambulance arrived.
"Her legs were gnawed to the bone," the spokeswoman said. "It is a horrible story. I don't think anything like this has ever happened in the country. It's very shocking and terrifying indeed."
The mayor of the regional municipality sent a team to Nedyalsko to catch the animals.
Street dogs are a common problem in the Balkan country. Despite efforts to solve the issue, hordes of stray dogs roam parts of the capital Sofia.

Generation3,
This problem is not just in the Balkan country, but many other places, but not in some places where a stray dog can be a meal. We in parts of our state have a dog problem, as do many other states, I am sure. Could be if the Balkan country started eating dog, this would go away.
Just a joke, but the problem is all over.

Michael Dabrowski Yes, it's a terrible problem. It sounds like you might just have a good idea for animal control ..haha! We have very good animal control here in NW PA. Dog law enforcement does a pretty good job and we all have pets and are a bunch of real animal lovers. Our biggest problem is with rabies. There have been many cases of rabies with the raccoon and fox population. One of my employees just had a neighbors dog attacked by a rabid coon. After attacking the dog it came after the woman, the husband got a gun and shot it. But the sad thing was that the dog had to be put down, and the people when putting the coon in a bag for the animal control were splattered with blood. They now have to go through a series of shots. OUCH! Mary

In the West we have problems with Pit Bulls, Mastin Napolitano's, Rotweilers, Dobermann Pinchers, German Shepards and other sort of dogs that are used as weapons by crazy people and criminals, and just dogs that are mad and dangerous in our countrside and in our city parks and streets.
They should just hunt the dogs in Bulgaria and kill then, because there are to many and they are dangerous to humans. A Mankiller who reproduces itself will breed mankillers!

Pieter Unfortunate, but true. And by nature as a means of survival they are only doing what comes naturally. Culling is a must when animals get to that point and endanger human population. Mary
