------------Happy New Year to All-----------
For this is my wish to all for the New Year of that has begin. A new year, a new slate to write upon. A new beginning for all of us. A new horizon of life.
May to all, the new year bring to each, more of time to enjoy their friends new and old, their families and loved ones, and all that life has to offer to each and every one:
A new and happy New Year
The following is a gift of a poem written for the new year perhaps appropriate, perhaps not, for only to the beholder will this ring as so.
Copyright by Nicholas Gordon
Happiness is something that one settles for After the ups and downs of ecstasy.
Perhaps one doesn’t know what one is looking for;
Perhaps one doesn’t realize one is free.
Year’s end is time to tally up the tentacles,
Needing an occasion to take stock.
Everywhere are angels singing canticles
Well beyond the confines of the clock.
Years, no more than seconds, are but moments,
Each eternity again, again.
All live on the wheel of joys and torments,
Returning to the ramparts of the wind.

That it may be a cosy, warm, succesful, creative, innovative, happy and healthy 2008 for you! The party and fireworks were great overhere in the Netherlands although after 12 the heavy fog came in and the sight was only one meter, with the heavy fire work it gave the magica atmosphere of a war zone, especially with the smell of black powder. The champagne was good the atmosphere cosy and the *oliebollen delicious! I hope you had a good change of the year too! For Charles and those who can read German: A Newyears report from the Frankfurther Allgemeine Zeitung: SilvesterpartysHeller, größer, wärmer - die Welt feiert den Jahreswechsel01. Woke up this morning to a blizzard but all is starting to clear but will have more latter. Our snow is starting to arrive as the weatherman says snow everyday. So far just couple inches at a time. I can handle that. Happy New Year to you too.

I had forgotten of late, of that of the FAZ. For that are an excellent publication in news print in as much also that of E-net.
Your presentation is what we as people most forget, that we are all people with the simular feelings and thinking of the new year that is with us.
But, only to be in{ Rio de Janeiro}!!! For why to jump into the darn cold North See???

But, only to be in{ Rio de Janeiro}!!! For why to jump into the d**n cold North See??? Charles Because it is fun to do, refreshing and brave! It's a Dutch tradition! Rio de Janeiro is to far away for many of us Northern-Europeans, and to expensive. I am one of these rare people who love winter, an the freshness of the freezing wintercold. For instance I can not stay for long in my sisters place (South-Africa) in the summer, because I get crazy from the heat, and long again for the milde sea climate of our North-Western-European area. I have never been to Southern-America and am not particulary interested in it. My favorit destination is Northern-America, USA or Canada. Pieter

Happy New Year all! Pieter. I have been to New York City for 10 days. Amsterdam is much nicer!!! ;D ;D ;D Livia, Yes, Amsterdam is a nice city, I love to go and stay there for a few days, without using drugs. Just a beautiful old city with nice canals, museums, shops and art galleries. I like to buy my art and photography books there, good shoes, clothes and equipment for my photography. And I love the city because I have nice memories from my study time there. It's a place of memories and dear friendships. Besides that I go to concerts there, Bob Dylan, Cat Power and Dutch musicians too. I stil go out in that city every now and then! New York I have to see stil, so can't judge that city!

livia, Amsterdam, just more drugs. Michael Dabrowski Michael, That's the cheapest cliché of Amsterdam, the city is not much differant from any other capital. Actually Rotterdam is worse, being a large harbour with imports from drugs, and so export. Every large Western Capital and city has a narcotics problem, and Amsterdam is getting less liberal now it wants to close the famous Red light district. That districts was also the centre of drugs and *women trade from Eastern-Europe and other places. Pieter * The main reason for closing the red light district is the women trade, but in the same time the city council wants to get rid of drugs related crime, and therefor a lot of coffeeshops will disappear.

Pieter
Is this just not true...Most port cities are what you wish to look for, not so different then Hamburg/Kiel Bremerhaven.
I have most of visits, been primarily in the Noord. Port of Rotterdam is one of the finest port facilities in Europe. If memory serves correctly, it will handle most vessels up to a 14.5 draught and up to 380 metres length. With the excelent port facilites in Rotterdam, it is often more economical for large vessels to fuel there as a time consideration rather then Bremehaven line up. For fuel burn is much greater with the Weser currant. Time is money with large vessels and with manuvouring in a currant, each turn cost fuel.
On holiday trips, it was fun to holiday in Groningen up the A7. For even this fine city, always if desired, a red light area could be found, but that was not our intent, for there is so much more in life to enjoy.
Charles
