Rokossovsky - interesting person - half Pole half Soviet - general and also minister of defense (am I correct) in Polish government during Stalin times Rokossovsky, Konstantin Konstantinovich (born Dec. 21, 1896, Velikiye Luki, Pskov region) is the son of a railroad engineer. He graduated from 4-years municipal school in Warsaw. After having lost his parents in 1911, he worked at a stocking factory, was a stonemason. In 1914 he was drafted to the front of WWI and rose to the rank of petty officer. In October 1917 he joined the Red Guards, since 1918 he served in the Red Army. In 1926-1928 he was an instructor in the Mongolian Army. Since 1930 he was successively in command of a regiment, a brigade, a division. In 1937, being in command of a cavalry corps, he was arrested and imprisoned. In the spring of 1940 he was acquitted and sent at the disposal of general Zhukov, who headed the Kiev military district at that time.
