If anyone is interested, the photos I took on my recent short visit can be viewed at community.webshots.com/user/ellray100The small number from Zakopane reflects my disappointment in the place! Leslie

Leslie, you strike a mean pose by the church! Nice pics. Looks like we will be there, Krakow, this weekend. All this talk of the place has made us decide on a wekend in Krakow. Might try the hotel the hollister family suggested. Going down on the train, saves me driving and takes less time. From your pictures it looks like tourist season is almost over so should be safe!

I was just admiring the several photo albums you have collected with your travels abroad and at home. In later times, memories and conversation photos.
I like your photos, they are what the eye observes and your family photos show caring and closeness.

All booked now! Short trip, 09:00 train Saturday, back on the 17:00 train Sunday. Enough time to take in the old town, Wawel and Kazimierz. Hope the sun shines.

Scatts, We will be praying you have good weather only and the sun shining where ever you go this weekend. I know we all will be waitng for some great fotos. Maybe this will be the frist time Zosia will see a castle. She can pretend to be a princess (what pretend she is you say) and have her prince charming slay the dragons. She will love Kracow I'm sure.

Thanks all. It is strange that we have not been to Krakow with Zosia, which means for the last 4 years nearly. Anyway, that will be fixed soon.
H. I've sent a mail to book Kawaleria for an early dinner on Saturday as we will be exactly in that location. The other one looks opposite the hotel from the map but we'll be in Kazimierz on Sunday and will probably "go Jewish".

I take it you are staying at the Royal? Hope you have a good time and enjoy the 70's furniture! Can't beat the location or the price though. Say hi to Wanda the wonder waitress for me! You will know her by the scowl and the loud slap of the mandatory slippers.

Will you come to Poland with me and be my tour guide?

We are staying at the Royal, it looks like the best location in town if you want to walk everywhere. The price is also very attractive, 330 PLN for the one night in a large room with three beds. I just checked and the Sheraton, in a similar but slightly worse location, would cost us circa 850 PLN for the same night. I'm expecting something very similar to the Europejski in Warsaw. A hotel with character that will one day be bought by someone else, "improved" a lot and the prices trebled. Also just got mail from Kawaleria restaurant confirming reservation. So let's face it Holly, if this trip is bad you know who's in trouble (apart from myself)?

Scatts Even though I am a lover, a fanatical one, of Krakow, I am sure you will enjoy it. I hope you think you should return when you have had your two days, as It needs more than that to really appreciate all it has to offer. If, and I am sure you will, you go to Wawel, make sure Zosia sees Smok the dragon breathing fire at the foot of its den in the side of Wawel. I stood and watched it for 30 minutes - see what intellectuals do Pawi?!!!! Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it , and the train journey is so interesting in itself. Leslie

We will for sure enjoy it, Krakow is our favourite place after Warsaw. Marta and I have been there tons of times before so we've done pretty much everything there is to do three times already! For Zosia it is all new. She likes dragons so she's going to get a kick out of the smok wawelski.
Will report back on Monday probably.

Just a quick one to let you know we got back and all went well. Next time we're driving, can't think what madness I was gripped by to let the train take the strain. Zosia was a complete nutter both ways, in the car, she sleeps!
Got to everywhere we wanted, took loads of snaps.
Holly, the hotel and restaurant were fine. Well, truth be told, the restaurant was good and the hotel was cheap, clean and in the right place. The room was huge, which helped. Give it a few more years and someone will buy that place and turn it into something very sexy and bardzo more expensive! Good tips, thanks!
It was fun, but tiring, Zosia was supercharged the whole weekend, even when she was ultra tired she just kept on spilling drinks, rolling in the dirt, playing with the trash bins, screaming, jumping, poking sticks in our eyes, shouting "kupa!" (because daddy stupidly thought ulica kupa in Kazimierz was funny)......whatever she shouldn't do, she has been doing all weekend. She's sleeping now, thank goodness!
