This is an excellent reproduction of the Neolithic {new stone age} built structure. An incredible invention of a new life style that is sedentary and creation of food surplus with the new technique of animal domestication.
It is interesting of note that this is a parallel development as also in what is known as The {Middle East}.
A side note: There are very few knowledgeable people with the skill to make/repair thatch roof. At least in Germany. This type of roof {Saxon thatch} will last many many long years with only a yearly maintenance thatch touch up. Of the recent years though, there has been a nasty fungus problem requiring almost a rebuilding of the thatch, with the greater problem of locating the people with the proper skills.

Charles,
you are right that the invention of the thatch roof was very important and probably improved lives of the people in old times. I did not know about a fungus problem. But whenever I see a thatched roof - I wish it was kept for future generations!

Thatch is dying out in Poland for various reasons, but is a safe niche market in England. Did you know there were also "thatched" clothes of vegetable material?

I just read an article about that this morning! Actually, I have seen clothes made out of hemp for several years (at least in Canada). And no, you can not smoke your clothes if you desperate - the wrong kind of hemp. H
