JJ
Open Office is compatible with MS Office. More and more other software products produce .doc files. And most are able to create PDF files which are compatible with many applications. I am on a Mac and have never been asked to insert the original disk for MS Office, I am now running Office 2004

Welllll - - I have a registered copy of Microsoft Office 2000 Professional. It is an upgrade rather than a straight install. To install this it needs to see my old office disk, and guess what? I can't find it. Well, it seems that I need some good single malt scotch to contemplate my computing future. I have found this. enOffice.org 2 is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose. It is Microsoft office compatible. Anybody hear of it? What are you operating system? XP or now, Visita? {professional or Home Premium}? Microsoft has of late, become very sensative to security and commercial priority of programmes. The Visita is preloaded with these programmes per/by sale, consumer ential purchase. There is a time sensative elapse of use of preloades, then to continue, after the 60 day elaps. It is expected of the consumer to come up with purchase of these programmes. If so that you have Visita, your word programme is hidden. It is there in place but not shown. If you typen in word {work} in search, it will come up. You are covered, just not advertised. Also do I have a disk of Office XP Professional 2002. I will wait until expiration of currant install of such, then proceed of removal for clean install. As my old copy is not store purchase I must then place into programme complience for transfer from Xp to Visita with the employee number code. Machines are so stupid, what would they to do with out us humans?? Charles

Charles, I am running XP Home Edition SP3. Since I build my own computers from purchased component, I also purchase the software seperately. All my SW is on hard CD besides being resident on my hard drive.

Charles, ;DThe replacement card they sent me was the EVGA e-GeForce 8600GT. I had sent back a defective e-GeForce 8400GS. The 1st card was DOA but I read the return policy, jumped through the hoops and I think I got an upgrade for all my troubles. The only problem is that my and Jaga's avatar seems to have disapeared in this forum although I have other peoples avatar's. ;D ;D I am running XP Home Edition SP3. I am asked to insert my original disk on occassion in Word (when looking for clip art) I bought my computer from Dell and they did all the preloading. They probably don't download everything on the disks only the basic program hence the request to insert the disk to find other files.

Thank you Bob for the list and meanings. I was to be aware of {DOA} whilst this spring. It came up with investigational situations as encountered by police.
It would so seem we all have our own abbreviations in as much as for us. It saves much time and recording effort. As you will notice of our following:
am} Amerikanisch {American}
AG} Aktiengesellschaft {Stock Company}{Incorporated}
AGB}die Allgemeinen Geschäftsbedingungen {terms/conditions- of use}
It is interesting of our many similar but dissimilar manners of our adaption in communication.
