There are Americans who went to school before political correctness and revisionism took place. At the time we thought that the words comming from a dedicated teacher were musty and would serve us no purpose in the future, yet, we are the ones that remember.
We remember the Sayings, The speeches, The music, The songs, The poetry and the stories that came down to us from all times and in all languages.
We remember "Here rest the Laodicians, true to there word"; we remember the brave actions of Boadicea of Britain, we hear and read the oratory and writings in the Forum of Ancient Rome. We heard the defiance of the Poles playing Chopin and The Warsaw Concerto when Nazis were dropping their bombs on that city (Poland may have been over run but it was never conquered because we remember the Sewer Rats of Warsaw".
Most of all we remember the speeches in American History "An appeal to arms and the God of hosts is all that is left us. But we shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God that presides over the destinies of nations. The battle sir, is not to the strong alone. Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it almighty God. I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death.", Patrick Henry. We remember the speech given by Theodore Roosevelt at the Sorbonne (I told you about that speech a long time ago Jaga).
From the French we heard "They shall not pass" and from England and Wales we heard the strains of "Men of Harlech".
So many epitaphs, so many speeches, so many calls, so many illustrations yet they all have one thing in common; freedom and liberty. Today many revisionists would want to erase these things from history but history cannot be changed or erased.
To our friends in other countries; yes, we remember and we know what sacrifices they might cost. Who remembers what a critic wrote or even ther names? Who remembers the ones who tried to belittle the sacrifices and loss of others?
