Knife in the Water (not - on the water?) - oh, my God, I don't know what people see in that movie, extremely boring for me. Perhaps I'm too young to understand it. Definitely I prefer the comedies from the list.

Honestly,
it is a bit strange list to me also, why there is nothing from Katalog of Kieslowski or Stanislaw Rozewicz. I mean, maybe these movies are the best for somebody but... how to really make a list of movies who are so different?
Zanussi is also missing
Ashes and Diamonds - was also boring for me, I prefered much more "man of Marble"
I agree with Zooba on "Knife in water" I guess, women do not like drastic scenes

The best Polish film of all time is Angelus, by L. Majewski ("Wojaczek", etc.) Beautiful colours, colourful language and characters, gritty realism with a surreal (but apparently partly true) plot. One of the funniest films ever.

Forza, Thank you for the list Good way to get the new year moving...we watch most of our movies on DVD. Of the ten, I've only seen "The Pianist." It was, for me, a deeply moving story; for my husband, a deeply disturbing movie. The other Polish movies we watched most recently are two directed etc. by Andrezj Wajda which I was able to borrow with English subtitles through our interlibrary loan: "The Promised Land" - the director's cut - a re-edit since the original. Wadja's interpretation of a 19th century epic dealing with the change of values brought on by the Industrial Revolution in Poland. Costuming and sets - excellent; acting - ? "Zemsta (2002) ... aka The Revenge " - a 17th century family feud. Very funny once you realize it is a satire. Costuming is very good; acting is also very good. The friend who runs the Polish Cultural Center not far from here recently told me that there is a good collection of Polish movies at the Center; some with English subtitle, some without.

I recently watched "With Fire and Sword"... i've always enjoyed "Sex Mission." I also enjoy "I don't like mondays" and "Poszukiwany... Poszukiwana"
