***The nation of Israel has only the sea at their backs with no where to go. They are surrounded by potential enemies on all sides in front of them. Only by their individual determination, good fortune and expertise in military deployment of weapons. have they survived through to the present.*** Charles, the fact that Israel is small and surrounded by not very friendly countries does not mean that Israel has to attack or push America to attack every other country which is not very friendly in the neighbourhood. This reminds me about a small dog that barks a lot because it is afraid of everything else - the big dog does not do it since it is more self-confident. I do not want to disrespect the Israel but the defense through the attack is not the best one and is a bit risky. By the way, many countries try to fight for some domination. Poland after WW I was promoting the slogan: From one sea to another sea By the way, I just read an article about anti-semitism in Poland and Germany and some of the quotes I read are just terrible....so we should be glad that free Israel exists and we should protect it as much as we can, but not by attacking other countries

Jaga Yes, I do also agree with you with Israel. I do try to balance my thoughts, feelings against facts of Israel. On the one hand, I wish not to promote and defend this tiny nation, and the people. whilst on the other hand, I have a nagging requirement to do just that, and I just simply do not have a clue as to why. Not sure if it is a curse or blessing. Perhaps it is just a matter of being to darn sensitive, or perhaps maybe it is what I as a person must do. What I wanted to do though, is share a prospective with you on Israeli history from the beginnings in 1948. Some aspects of the web site are not to my liking, but, it gives an excellent over view of the various conflicts. And yes, you are correct with some of the un-necessary invasions preempted by Israel, the invasion of Lebanon, was very unnecessary. www.unitedjerusalem.com/HISTORICAL_PERSPECTIVES/Israel_Wars_Maps___History/israel_wars_maps___history.aspwww.washington-report.org/backissues/0794/9407073.htmIt is interesting that you should pick up on the situation of antisemitism. I was not aware it was becoming more prominent then usual. Of course, this would be natural due to my nature of limited contact with people and if necessary, to disappear in a crowd. Thank you for your intrinsic input and knowledge, it is very much appreciated. Charles

Charles,
I was not clear probably. These antisemitic quotes were from 30-es of XX century, they are not now.

Jaga
For my own personal opinion of the Pope in Poland, I believe it is a wonderful opportunity for several situations. For one The Pope needs to make his presence seen to the people. It is a matter of importance to those of the Catholic faith and to others. It is as matter of strengthening the ties of Christians, to give courage to others that the church cares and they (people) are not alone.
Yes, the Pope is German and in the minds of people, this presence is recognized as such, and, he is the Pope, the highest standing in the Catholic Church, and he is in Poland for the Polish people. His blessings, his giving of courage of faith, his prestige of standing, all there to give his blessings to the people.
I believe this must by virtue of his standing, have an effect of consolidation of Polish and German people under one religion and that of the Catholic Church. Yes, I do believe this will bring the people closer together, Polish and German folk alike.
Poland has many virtues that is not present in many parts of Germany. For one thing, Polish people are more together, they have a primary religion of the Catholic Church that is a binding factor that brings people together. Germany is what it has always been, just more sophisticated and modern through the ages. But, still a land of arguments and division.
Please do not fret with what you have said earlier. It was what was on your mind, and you spoke your mind, that is important.
