Here is a link to the movie: www.amazon.com/Magdalene-Sisters-Kate-Christie/dp/B00018D3L4/polishculture-20one of the reviews said: A movie guaranteed to make the blood boil, The Magdalene Sisters gives a lacerating account of life inside a Magdalene Laundry, one of the dismal asylums for "wayward women" run by the Catholic Church in Ireland. Director Peter Mullan, inspired by a TV documentary on the same subject, follows the miserable fates of three young women who are institutionalized in the 1960s for flimsy reasons; their lives are at the mercy of sadistic nuns (Geraldine McEwan is superb as the head of the place). The film sounds tortuous, but its rich sense of outrage and excellent performances--Nora-Jane Noone is a real discovery--make it consistently gripping. The movie won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival and went on to become a box-office hit in Ireland, where the Magdalene system was still a fresh memory. It had been abolished only in 1996.

Jaga
Firstly, this is good of you to present this to all, and as such, you are being very honest to a fault for yourself and others of the Catholic faith. And as a person, I am cognoscente of this as only what it is, Information, and within this context, educational value of knowledge.
realizing this of course was a movie based upon fact, non-the-less, it is the fact that has been hidden from the eyes of the world with intent and malice. And by of all things, a world reknown religious church, that of Catholic.
It should have been obvious from our history of the long past 30 years war, that this type of abuse to the people would not be tolerated, and yet, the church continues to exorcise these practices, but, now, it is in secret.
I wish on one coin side, I have not learnt of this, whilst on the other face of the coin, I am not happy, but am richer in the knowledge
{for what price are we willing to gain knowledge, and to what extent will we risk for what we gain?}
The following is not to be construed as personal, for with us here, we protect and cherish one another with a bond of friendship.
__Upon my initial read through of the article, it gave a great cause of heated anger, so much in fact, I was to let it rest for a time, for I was not to trust my self to place upon words to be read.
-Now I am ready.
It is my sincere displeasure to expose to others my intrinsic and learnt feelings in relationship to such a deplorable, despicable, reckless, criminal acts of cruelty committed to young girls in the squise of the trusted religious order of the catholic church {I have omitted the respect of usage of large letters for it deserve not that respekt.
For this is nothing less then an {Strafarbeitslager}-penal labour camp-
My country for the past many years has been condemned for the use of such camps designed for convicted criminals to serve out their time, and for protection of the public. The stated legal reason was: {Discipline ensures creative work for the community}. And now, it is disclosed in our so called modern time, such a sentence upon women with out civil legality, with out recourse, with out the means of legal protection. But, arrested, sentenced to life, by a religious order in secret,to protect the crimes of the Church.
So now, after the fact, who will pay the price of these crimes? Or will the Irish simply turn their eyes away and keep their silence?
Is it the Irish that are just mean, or is it the combination of a religious order that has lied by silence using religion as a shield to hide behind?
This example plus our history with the cruelty of church rule as government, that the people have freed them selves to form the civil rule of freedom, and to insure of {Never Again}.---
A simple unspoken fact that has been Bourne out in long ago usage is this: The protection and sanctuary of the Church, is only as good as the standing walls. If destroyed, it is then useless.
For worse or betterment, that is my total feeling of these events. So I am of a cruel people with a bad past. But, at least we are honest, we disclose to the world our intent, then carry it out.
But, what may be said of these religious orders that keep secret, their crimes of cruelty and violence?

I had to read much more to realize that this was true in Ireland. In Poland we had some schools and houses for young girls led by nuns - but these were mainly educational institutions. Still, the movie exposes the danger when one institution is above the control of any other institution (state, courts). This could happen everywhere, it did happen in the Church which is a shame since the Church should be much more superior and better than other institutions. It is shocking, neverteless I do not believe that this practice is happening anymore anywhere. It does not mean that the Church is doing all correcly, but it is under more scrutiny now.

Dear Jaga I do admire your level of response to my numerous inflammatory statements! It is just my temperament and internal drive I have not lost from 35 years in past. I think perhaps the Office of The Diplomatic Foreign Service is in need of your skills in Diplomatic resolution.... I do share your thoughts as this being rather isolated and have made the necessary corrections. Some time in past {well not so long in past} I was in attendance to a rather lengthy seminar held in a Catholic training school for Nuns. The buildings were only partially being used at the time, and as so, space was made available for our use for two weeks. { I had nothing to do with the business arrangements with the Catholic Church}. I was very impressed with the courtesy offered to us in accordance to use of the various facilities available. A very large Olympic size swim pool, choice of several weight/exercise rooms and equipment. Also that of our rooms were changed of the linens and cleaned every day. The exercise rooms were used by my self in morning and evening to burn off excess energy from lack of daily exercise. Even though our professional agenda was not exactly in accordance of public safety, but for use in some foreign locations. The Nuns never questioned and The Mother Superior was very gracious to us all. The entire staff was in my mind, very very exemplary as humanitarian and a model of thoughtfullness of the welfare of others. We were only ask to not enter the class rooms and training areas of certain buildings they were using for their training. Charles

Courageous expose. These abuses have been commited by psychopaths who have used their particular religion as an excuse.
