Now that is just some thing! Was this available to you when you were growing up? We had base ball in school with foot ball and some toys but not many for we were poor in todays standards. I was to make out of wood, a poor imitation of an airplane, out of tins {cans} train cars by flating the sides top and bottom, then for the engine, the same but with addition of a piece of pipe for the smoke stack. Axils were stiff wire with what ever would work for wheels.
Out of one of the military dumps, we salvaged various usefull items such as wood scraps. This once I used to make a very fun Roman catapult using a screen door spring for power. It would power out a round rock the size of a golf ball at a very long range. Actually was dangerious and the range was more then we thought, for after a couple of uses, the rock caught the wind and sailed far too far then we thought and hit some large whare house windows. No one was about so we disappeared and so with the catapult.

No wonder you Volk turned out to be so RESOURCEFUL ! The day I received my pom pom gun, it was even better than Xmas. It had a crank handle on the side, made lots of noise....and made me the BADDEST kid on the block. It was of course back then.....some REAL FUN !
