A Ukrainian politician proposed to ban the use of the words “Russia” and “Rus” in Ukraine to refer to the present territory of the Russian Federation.

Oh pardon, I meant that country in northern Eurasia that takes up over 17,075,400 square km (6,592,800 square miles) currently led by Vladimir Putin.



Oksana Korchinskaya, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from Ukraine's Radical Party, proposed a bill to ban the use of the words "Russia" and "Rus" in Ukraine, because, in her mind, these two words were originally used to refer to the territory of the present day Ukraine [the Kievan Rus].



Therefore, Ukraine must ban these words, since they are "the aggressive reminder to the citizens of Ukraine about a ‘temporary' nature of the Ukrainian statehood," Korchinskaya argued. Politicians in Kiev think that the notorious words somehow infringe on the Ukrainian sovereignty.



The bill wants to change the name of the world's largest country in all Ukrainian official documents, including school textbooks, encyclopedias, road maps, advertising billboards, road signs, post offices and pretty much everywhere where the word is used.

Now brace yourself. Under the new law, the use of the words will be considered as violation against the territorial integrity of Ukraine. According to the Criminal Code of Ukraine, violators will spend 12 years in jail.

Next time the Ukrainian politicians might ban the use of the US state of New Mexico or Canada's westernmost province of British Columbia, as they might also be "the aggressive reminder" of "temporary" nature of Mexico and Colombia.

Unfortunately you have idiots in every country, and some of these idiots managed to get elected in parliament. In the Netherlands there was one politician who wanted to tax the headscarves of Muslim women.

Sarah Palin in the USA made the following statement: "Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists."

Clive Palmer of the Australian 'Palmer United Party' stated: "These Chinese mongrels, I'm saying that because they're Communist, they shoot their own people, they haven't got a justice system and they want to take over this country."

"I'm sorry, it just feels like a bunch of midgets up here worrying about some CBO issue."

Bob Corker (Republican) used the word "midget" when speaking to the Senate Banking Committee in the summer of 2014. The senator from Tennessee, clearly one of America's most eloquent, later said he didn't mean any harm.

"Anglo Democrats with egos as big as Texas, mouths as big as the Grand Canyon."

Miguel Garcia (Democrat) emailed Senate colleagues with this line and found himself in hot water. The New Mexico Representative has seen his reputation suffer, as even Democrat House Speaker Ken Martinez distanced the party from his race-based comments about "Anglo Democrats," AKA white people.

"Exactly what part of our nation's fabric was woven by Muslims? What about Sikhs, Animists, and Jainists? Should we be thanking them too?"

Bob FitzSimmonds (Republican) was the treasurer of the Virginian Republican Party... until he wrote this on Facebook in August of 2014. Social media backlash forced this political official to resign shortly thereafter.

"This is my 2nd favorite gunshot wound of all time."

Milton Wolf (Republican) probably even shocked his fellow Tea Partiers with this Facebook post, sharing his patient's X-rays with the above caption. The man who calls himself a "doctor, not a politician" is running to be a Kansas senator and likely feels bad about this misguided post.

Thank you for presenting this, for it is quite deplorable that such a person should propose a measure such as proposed. It is not only deplorable, but a bit absurd to banish a word such as Russian from use, I would tend to believe there are more important issues that need to be attended to then such nonsense as proposed.

If it happened in Russia, the country would be labeled as "oppressive" and, frankly, "insane."  But Ukraine does it and it's considered a legitimate reaction to oppression.

It has to do with common sense, the truth, logic, honesty and the reality. How about we don't like the Muslim world, and therefor ignore the existence of Saoudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Northern-Africa, Turkey, Bosnia-Herzegowina, Albania, the Middle-East in general, Pakistan, Afghnistan, Chechenia, the Muslim nations of the Caucasus (Tatarstan and Bashkortostan -within Russia-, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan), and only recognize and talk about Christian, Hindu, Buddhist and animist countries?

Oksana Korchinskaya is acting childish. A war or civil war can't fade out or fade away the existence of a considered enemy. You can't ignore or recognize the existence of a large nation, because once it was the name of an empire with the name of your capital in it (Kiev Rus).
